5-Star Liam McNeeley Decommits From Indiana, Reopens Recruitment

Liam McNeeley, Indiana's lone commitment in the class of 2024 and a five-star prospect, has reopened his recruitment, according to multiple reports.

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Indiana's future outlook took a hit Thursday night with news that five-star small forward Liam McNeeley has decommitted from Indiana and will reopen his recruitment.

One of the top high school basketball players in the nation, McNeeley was recently named a McDonald's All-American and a Naismith Trophy Boy's High School All America Third Team member. At 6-foot-7, he's a consensus five-star recruit, ranked No. 15 in the nation by the 247Sports Composite rankings. Kansas was the other finalist in his original recruitment.

McNeeley starts for a 30-0 Montverde Academy and averages 12.7 points, 3.8 rebounds, 2.9 assists, and 1.1 steals per game. He is shooting 51.0% (130-of-255) from the field, 46.0% (64-of-139) from the 3-point line, and 80.0% (56-of-70) from the free throw line.

McNeeley was the only high school recruit committed to Indiana in the class of 2024, so coach Mike Woodson will have to heavily utilize the transfer portal to build a 2024-25 roster. The only Hoosiers currently guaranteed to leave are Xavier Johnson and Anthony Walker, who are out of eligibility at the end of the season. Trey Galloway and Anthony Leal have an option to use their COVID year for a fifth season of eligibility, and Kel'el Ware is currently a projected first-round pick.

Indiana (17-13, 9-10) concludes the 2023-24 regular season Sunday against Michigan State at 4:30 p.m. ET inside Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall.
