Drexel Transfer Amari Williams Receives Interest From Indiana

Drexel forward Amari Williams has reportedly heard from Indiana, among many other schools, after winning three consecutive CAA Defensive Player of the Year awards.

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The growing list of transfers linked to Indiana now includes Drexel's Amari Williams.

Williams is a 6-foot-10, 227-pound forward with one year of remaining eligibility. He made the first team All-CAA as a senior and won three consecutive CAA Defensive Player of the Year awards. Across 90 games from his sophomore through senior seasons, Williams blocked 181 shots, roughly two per game.

In 2023-24, Williams averaged 12.2 points, 7.8 rebounds and 1.8 blocks per game while making 32 starts and playing 22.9 minutes per game. As a junior in 2022-23, he posted career-high numbers with 13.7 points, 8.8 rebounds and 2.2 blocks per game.

Williams has heard from Creighton, Xavier, Indiana, Miami (FL), St. John’s, Michigan, Texas, Florida, Oklahoma, Louisville, Boston College, Texas Tech, Notre Dame, Penn State, Ole Miss, Utah State, Mississippi State, Oklahoma State, South Florida, BYU, California, Missouri, Kansas State and Arkansas, among others, according to On3's Joe Tipton.

Williams did the vast majority of his scoring around the rim, shooting an efficient 52.6% on 2-point attempts. He's not much of a 3-point shooting threat, but made 8-of-26 attempts, or 30.8%, from beyond the arc across his four-year career at Drexel.

Indiana lost backup forward Anthony Walker to graduation, and starting center Kel'el Ware – the Hoosiers' leading scorer, rebounder and shot blocker – could leave as a projected late first-round or early second-round NBA draft pick. Even if Indiana returns Malik Reneau and Payton Sparks, the departure of Walker and/or Ware opens a spot in the front court for a player like Williams.
