Indiana Women's Basketball: Chloe Moore-McNeil has Tools to Lead

Indiana women's basketball rising senior guard Chloe Moore-McNeil has all the skills to lead the Hoosiers at the point guard position. With the graduation of Grace Berger, the spot needs to be filled, and the Greenfield, Tenn. native is the next woman up.

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — Indiana women's basketball guard Chloe Moore-McNeil is a rising senior with a big task ahead of her in the 2023-24 season. It's not set in stone, but she could very well be in charge of leading the Hoosiers' offense.

With the graduation of former point guard Grace Berger, Moore-McNeil is the best option to take the one-position. In other options, the Hoosiers have incoming freshmen guards Lenée Beaumont and Julianna LaMendola, who are their state's respective Gatorade Player of the Year and Ms. Basketball.

Plus, there's rising sophomore guard Lexus Bargesser who saw playing time in 29 games last season. Moore-McNeil in her senior year will have the most experience at the collegiate level than these three athletes combined. She has the tools to be a fantastic point guard and has shown that in her three seasons at Indiana.

Last season, the Greenfield, Tenn. native started all 32 games and led the team with 155 assists. She's scrappy on defense and was tasked by head coach Teri Moren to guard the opposing team's best players. She was awarded All-Big Ten Defensive Team for her efforts. Showing off her versatility, she can also shoot well as she averaged 9.5 points per game shooting 44 percent from the field.

She's excellent from the charity stripe ranking second in free throw percentage at 86.3 percent and also has a deep three-point range shooting 33.7 percent from downtown. These numbers earned her a spot on the All Big-Ten Second Team.

Moore-McNeil stood the test of time and patience as she earned her starting role following two seasons of being a role player. Now, she almost plays the entire game and has even grown in the weight room, Moren said.

The last day for athletes to enter the transfer portal is May 11. So far, the Hoosiers haven't grabbed any new players despite having plenty of room. Even if Indiana didn't take on anyone else, the team returns nine players, four of which are starters.

Unless the Hoosiers go out and get a star point guard that's putting up huge numbers, Moore-McNeil and her dedication to the program is perhaps the best option for the position.
