Indiana Football Pauses Voluntary Workouts After Six Positive COVID-19 Tests

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — IU Athletics announced Friday afternoon that Indiana’s football team has paused voluntary workouts after six members of the program tested positive for COVID-19.
The football team began working out and returning to campus on June 15, and since then, other sports have returned to campus to workout as well. Last week, the athletic department announced that there were only four positive COVID-19 tests out of the 295 given.
Per the recommendations of the IU Athletics Medical Advisory Group, “each positive test result will result in isolation until further notice and contact tracing measures are established to detect individuals who are considered close contacts, and may have been exposed to the virus. These close contact individuals are also quarantined until further notice.”
The members of the program who tested positive have not been revealed.
Furthermore, this has only suspended football’s voluntary workouts. According to IU Athletics, it does not impact individuals who have been cleared to participate in voluntary workouts from the IU’s men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s soccer, volleyball and field hockey programs.
