Iowa Adds Joseph Anderson to '24 Class

St. Louis D-End Announces Hawkeye Commitment

Iowa Football continued reaping the rewards from its big recruiting weekend late last month. St. Louis Westminster Christian Academy defensive lineman Joseph Anderson announced his verbal commitment to the Hawkeyes Monday. 

Anderson (6-6, 215) becomes the 17th known verbal pledge in Iowa's 2024 recruiting class. He also reports scholarship offers from Missouri, Nebraska, Iowa State, Vanderbilt, Kansas, Kansas State and others. 

Rivals, On3 and 247Sports rank Anderson as a three-star prospect. On3 sees him as the ninth best player in Missouri for '24 and the No. 41 Edge nationally in the recruiting cycle. 247Sports rates him 11th in his state and 45th in the country at his position. 

Anderson officially visited Iowa the weekend of June 23. He also officially visited Nebraska and Kansas. 

During his Hawkeye stop, he joined '24 prospects verbally committed to the programs and other top targets in the cycle. Iowa has received verbal pledges from five previously uncommitted recruits from that weekend. 

Anderson's father, Bennie Anderson, who was born in St. Louis, played football at Tennessee State before spending six seasons in the NFL. He started 71 of his 82 games in the league on the offensive line. 

Joseph's two older brothers play college football. Bennie Anderson Jr. is an offensive lineman at Yale. Joshua Anderson is a sophomore offensive lineman at Eastern Michigan. 

According to his junior highlights on Hudl, Joseph Anderson totaled 54 tackles with 9.0 of them for loss and 6.0 sacks in '22. He received all-state and all-district recognition. 

The first clip on his film shows off his athleticism as he tracks down a kick returner from behind. It's filled with him being disruptive off of the edge.
