Baylor at Kansas Basketball Predictions: Perform in the Spotlight

The Jayhawks host the Bears for College Gameday and one of the marquee matchups of the conference season.

The Kansas Jayhawks are home for a huge College Gameday matchup, and it is against on of the recent stalwarts of the Big 12 Conference in the Baylor Bears. After a tough three-game losing streak, Baylor has been able to hold on for three straight wins to stay in second place in the conference.

The Jayhawks are facing another great offense today, and have some good success shutting those down. But will the three-point shooting prowess of the Bears be a huge problem? Or will Kansas be able to match Baylor and set the tone early in this one?

How many times is Kansas going to test the “Bill Self never loses two in a row” or “Kansas never loses at Allen Fieldhouse” theories? The rollercoaster is real this season, and I guess that I have to pick Kansas because it is a big name opponent and it’s at home, both major advantages for this KU team. Not anything to do with this game, but I hope KU gets at least a semi name brand opponent early in the tournament because they play their best against the best competition. Anyway, Baylor is some of the best competition in the league and I expect it to be a tight game with KU coming out on top after a bounce back game from Johnny Furphy and a more controlled game from Kevin McCullar.

Here we are again with desperation setting in, at least as far as the Big 12 title race is concerned. Monday was incredibly frustrating but at least KU is back home, right? It’s cliché and it’s obvious but there’s no bigger strength in this league than home court advantage, and none of those are more intense than that of Allen Fieldhouse. This isn’t the same Baylor defense as recent vintage, so I think KU should be able to score at a decent clip. That specifically, hopefully, should include a return to form for McCullar and Furphy. If they get back on track and KU plays even decent defense on the perimeter, the Jayhawks should be able to handle business.

If there is one thing that I have learned this year, it is that the Jayhawks play much better defense at home than they do on the road. That's going to be super important since Baylor has the number one three-point shooting offense in the country. But what they may lack on the perimeter, they make up in spades on the inside. It's not going to take a 69% shooting performance to beat Baylor, but the Bears have been playing with fire in the last couple games at home, and they are due for a subpar shooting performance.
