The Kansas Jayhawks are back on the road today to try and get their first win away from Allen Fieldhouse. This time, the opponent should be just a bit easier to get that result against: The Wichita State Shockers.

The Shockers are led by 1st-year head coach Terry Nooner, who previously was an assistant on the Kansas staff and played on the men's team from 1997-2000. This is his first head coaching position. Kansas Coach Brandon Schneider is 2-0 in his career against the Shockers.

Before today's important matchup, here are the essentials:

Opponent Team Form

The Shockers are 4-5, with a very roller-coaster of a season. They have beaten teams a few decent teams, like Presbyterian, but their last outing was a loss to the same team that Kansas just beat handily earlier this week: Houston Christian.

Offensively, the Shockers play well at the rim. They are middle of the pack in offensive rebounding, and they get 21.5% of their points from put-backs. They also play well at the rim and in the paint, and get to the line quite a bit. But they don't shoot particularly well, meaning that they need a huge volume of shots in order to put up many points. They are ok at avoiding turnovers, but Kansas could push an advantage here.

Defensively, they do much better. They force turnovers at a decent clip. They do a good job of keeping teams from getting second chance points. And they tend to run people off the three-point line. But they don't contest the interior well, and they are particularly prone to being affected by good passing from their opponent.

Prediction

The Jayhawks finally have a team on the road that they should be able to beat soundly. The return of Taiyanna Jackson, combined with the confidence that players like Danai Papadopoulou gained from filling in for her, will do wonders for the Jayhawks down the stretch. I expect plenty of opportunities for Kansas, including a lot of slashing and driving into the paint (at least when they aren't throwing it in to Jackson.

Kansas 72, Wichita State 62.
