Kansas Basketball at Texas Tech Predictions: Try Not to Run Out of Gas

Will the Jayhawks be able to overcome a short turnaround against the Red Raiders in Lubbock?

The Kansas Jayhawks are were able to protect home court again this weekend despite the short bench, but the road woes have continued. And now, they once again get to go on the road to a place where they historically have been inconsistent while on very short rest.

The Texas Tech Red Raiders are ready to host Big Monday. They need this win just as badly as the Jayhawks do. While the unavailability of former Red Raider Kevin McCullar tonight may have removed some of the motivation, Kansas will still be facing a fantastic offense.

Will the Jayhawks be able to stifle an offense that is one of the ten best in the last few weeks? Or will the fatigue of only 7 scholarship players and a short turnaround be too much tonight?

So Kansas is coming off an emotional win at home against a title contender and then gets a quick turnaround to go on the road to a hostile environment? Sounds familiar. It didn’t go well last week against KSU, and with the possibility of missing Kevin McCullar and a likely less than 100% Dajuan Harris, a loss in Lubbock looks likely. Give me another KU road loss, but this one will finally be understandable.

Playing a team like Texas Tech is always going to be a tough take especially when on the road. Texas Tech has had some very disappointing losses as of late as they have lost three of their last four matchups. Although I believe this game will be hard-hitting. I have Kansas playing suffocating defense when it counts.

Kansas is seeking to maintain their winning momentum after a significant home victory against Baylor. Meanwhile, Texas Tech is also looking to continue their winning streak after a triumph against UCF. I anticipate that Kansas's depth will play a crucial role in this game, and they will likely emerge as the winners.

My expectations for this game are about as low as it gets. Beating Baylor without Kevin McCullar was great, but I have a hard time assuming KU can do that again against another strong opponent in a hostile environment. That’s only amplified by Dajuan Harris likely not being 100% healthy. Props to him for giving it a go tonight, but again, this feels like a massive uphill battle for Kansas. A win is possible, obviously, but between the environment, the short turnaround and the injuries, I think Texas Tech will win. Now would be a great time to make up for all those missed threes and defensive lapses though, Nick Timberlake.

This is tough, because there are a ton of things pointing to the Jayhawks losing this game rather soundly. With Kevin McCullar and Jamari McDowell already being ruled out, the Jayhawks are going to be short on the bench once again, and they won't be able to rely on a boost from the home crowd. Dajuan Harris being injured is a huge worry as well.

But on the other side there is a Texas Tech team that is struggling. In their last 5 games, every aspect of their play has been significantly worse than their season averages except two: 3-point shooting and free throw percentage. The uptick in free throw percentage has been offset by getting to the line less than normal, but the three-point shooting could be an issue. I'm just worried the short bench will be too tired to consistently close out on threes, and I don't expect the Red Raiders to miss as many at home as Baylor did on the road Saturday.
