Kansas Jayhawks move up in the polls after another blowout win
For the second straight week, the Kansas Jayhawks were tabbed in the AP Top 25 Poll. Coming off yet another blowout win over a quality opponent, they moved up two spots to enter the Top 20 at #20.
With the only losses by Top 25 teams coming at the hands of other ranked teams, it was a bit difficult to find natural room to move up. Baylor and Creighton took big tumbles for their losses, but they managed to stay in the poll. The only team to fall out of the poll was #25 Villanova, who was replaced this week at #25 by St John's.
South Carolina continues to lead the poll as a unanimous #1 selection, with Stanford unanimous as #2. Rounding out the Top 5 is Ohio State, Indiana and Notre Dame.
The Big 12 still has four teams in the polls. Iowa State leads the slate for the conference, as they come in at #14. Baylor dropped to #24 after their loss against Arizona, whom Kansas beat soundly recently. And Oklahoma moved up one spot to #23.slightly in both polls, to #12 in the AP Poll and #13 in the Coaches Poll.
There are two teams also receiving votes: Texas and Kansas State. Given the injury news that came out this week, I'm still a bit surprised that Texas is getting the same votes from the prior poll.
And we have a full slate of games between two ranked teams. On Tuesday, #16 Oregon and #17 Arkansas face off in the San Diego Invitational, #19 Michigan and #6 North Carolina meet in the Jumpman Invitational, and #21 Creighton visits #2 Stanford. And then on Wednesday, #3 Ohio State will play either Oregon or Arkansas, depending on results elsewhere. And the Kansas matchup with Nebraska on Wednesday is between a ranked Kansas and a Nebraska squad that is receiving votes.
