Kansas Jayhawks vs Texas Tech Red Raiders Predictions: Homecoming part 2.

In this story:
For the 32nd straight season, the Kansas Jayhawks were able to start conference play off with a win, as they took down the Oklahoma State Cowboys in Lawrence on New Year's Eve. But the game was far from perfect, and the next challenge will bring one of the key Kansas players back to the place they used to play: Lubbock. Will Kevin McCullar be able to block out the extra attention he will get from the Texas Tech Red Raider crowd? Will the rest of the squad pick up any slack? And can the Jayhawks start the season 2-0 to stay atop the conference?

Bill Self said that we better get used to tight games because every team in the league is good. That checks out as the top ten most difficult remaining schedules in the nation are the ten teams in the Big XII conference. Anyway, I’ll take KU to win down in Lubbock but I don’t think it’ll be pretty.

I don’t know that my blood pressure has come down from the Oklahoma State game but we have to put that one behind us and now look at Texas Tech. Every Big 12 game like this one will be important for the Jayhawks. This is what builds their experience and prepares them for the March madness tournament. I believe KU will be prepared and again I will be watching KJ Adams. Adams was a significant piece in the victory over the Cowboys and I believe he will have an impact against the Red Raiders. Kansas has depth but this team cannot afford to get into foul trouble.

I have to imagine Bill Self got after his guys after their sleepy win over Harvard just before Christmas. Like Derek said, this Oklahoma State turns the ball over a ton, and if there’s anything I’m confident in it’s KU’s ability to succeed offensively in transition. I think Oklahoma State could make life challenging for plenty of teams in the Big 12 this year, but KU won’t be one of them on Saturday.

The Jayhawks will have a tough test in this one, given that Texas Tech plays a style that is so different from the rest of the conference, especially defensively. Bill Self mentioned in the postgame that it is so difficult to get used to their style, and they didn't handle it well last year.
Having Kevin McCullar on the roster should help a little bit, as he can help identify things that he is seeing when attacking the defense, but I get the feeling that this is going to be another one of those ugly games. Give me the Jayhawks in a massive road win for them, but my heart rate is going to be through the roof.
