Oklahoma Sooners at Kansas Jayhawks: Game Predictions

The Kansas Jayhawks suffered their second defeat in conference play on Big Monday against the Texas Longhorns but remain half a game ahead of the Baylor Bears for the conference race. The Oklahoma Sooners got the big win they needed to boost their tournament chances on Wednesday against the Texas Tech Red Raiders.

Will Kansas be able to avoid their first losing streak this season? Or will Oklahoma build on that huge win against Texas Tech and all but guarantee themselves a tournament berth with a second huge win in a week? Our crew gives their predictions below

Kyle Davis: I spent time writing this week how Bill Self is 106-15 at Kansas following a loss and the Jayhawks have only had five losing streaks of two or more games in the last 10 years. And now KU plays at home against a team that is 2-5 on the road this year and has scored 70 points twice in the past nine games. I’m not saying Oklahoma will get run out of the building, because the Sooners are talented, but I’m siding with Self and history to fix the mental mistakes we saw in Austin.

Kansas 74, Oklahoma 66

Brendan Dzwierzynski: That stat from Kyle is preposterous and I’m not going to be the one to bet against a career .876 winning percentage in these situations. I’m a big fan of Porter Moser but I don’t love the talent OU has right now, and KU is not going to go through another 0-20 shooting stretch. Jayhawks off a disappointing loss and the Sooners off a desperately needed win has me feeling all KU this weekend.

Kansas 79, Oklahoma 69.

Derek Noll: Oklahoma rolled Tech on Wednesday, but I don’t think that the momentum will roll over into this one much like it didn’t for KU after Baylor. I’m going with the guys above, but I’m predicting a Kansas rout.

Kansas 87, Oklahoma 67.

Andy Mitts: There is one aspect where these two teams are oddly similar: they both are made up of players that have been inconsistent from game to game throughout the season. The difference? Kansas has players that are more often on than off (and more of them), while Oklahoma typically only has one or two players on in a specific game. And if you look at the box score for the win over Texas Tech, nearly half the offense came from Umoja Gibson, who went a blistering 8-11 from 3. I expect that inconsistency to continue.

Kansas 77, Oklahoma 58.
