Player Ratings to the Theme of Characters on Suits

Kansas beat Harvard in unconvincing fashion, but we take a look at some individual player performances

In this story:

All of the lawyers in the law firm on the popular USA series Suits graduated from Harvard Law. So what better way to rate the performances than by characters from that fine TV show. If you’ve never watched, I recommend it. I’m only on season four, so I won’t reveal any spoilers if you don’t.

As always, the "rules" of the player ratings are right here:

Contents

  1. 5 Stars: Harvey Specter
  2. 4.5 Stars: Louis Litt
  3. 4 Stars: Donna Paulsen
  4. 3.5 Stars: Mike Ross/Rachel Zane
  5. 3 Stars: Jessica Pearson
  6. 2 Stars: The clients
  7. 1 Star: Daniel Hardman/Logan Sanders
  8. Chris Teahan Memorial No Star:

5 Stars: Out of this world performance. This is a hard to achieve rating and is only reserved for the most impressive or impressionable performances.

4.5 Stars: Very strong performance, packed the stat sheet, provided undeniable intangibles.

4 Stars: A strong performance that falls just short of the standards above.

3.5 Stars: Above average performance, perhaps stands out in one category or one aspect of the game.

3 Stars: Average performance. Also could be a very strong game in one aspect but a very poor game in another such as 15 points but seven turnovers. Could also be that the player played, did their job, but didn't do much spectacularly.

2 Stars: Below average performance, or we simply have higher expectations for the player on this particular night.

1 Star: Rare, but if a player has a stinker in all aspects.

Memorial No Star: Named after a former KU walk-on or obscure player and is awarded to the player(s) who didn't have enough playing time to contribute or whose performance isn't worthy of a rating for another reason.

5 Stars: Harvey Specter

The clear five star. Harvey is the man that everyone envies, the man that never (rarely) loses.

No one was even close to being Harvey Specter in this contest.

4.5 Stars: Louis Litt

The portrayal of Louis by Rick Hoffman is criminally underrated. The emotion that the cat loving, mud bathing, second fiddle goes through on an almost daily basis is something to behold. Perhaps it’s a little too much emotion from a so-called high powered genius financial lawyer, but I don’t care. I love it even though Litt is probably the biggest man baby in TV history.

Nope, no one was a four and a half either.

4 Stars: Donna Paulsen

Donna knows everything that happens in the firm and she is played supremely well by Sarah Rafferty. Harvey wouldn’t be Harvey without Donna and that says it all.

I'm tossing Jalen Wilson here for the simple fact that he became the 66th player in Kansas basketball history to score 1,000 career points.  He also started the game really well scoring most of KU's early points, and then, let's just put it nicely, cooled off.  He regained the scoring touch when KU needed it and finished with 21.

Not a perfect performance by any stretch, but a double-double is worthy of a four this time. Kevin McCullar scored 14 and snatched 11 boards.

KJ Adams was active again.  Scored 14, grabbed seven rebounds, and had four steals. Fran loves his game and quite frankly, so are a lot of Kansas fans.

3.5 Stars: Mike Ross/Rachel Zane

An obvious choice as one of the principal stars of the show, but a little too easy. Everyone likes Mike, but the others are just a bit better. The same can be said of Meghan Markle’s Rachel Zane.

Gradey Dick sure can finish a half, can't he?  But sometimes, he just doesn't emerge out of the halftime tunnel.  Finished with 11 after scoring eight in a four minute spurt in the first half.

Bobby Pettiford was solid.  Four assists to one turnover bested Dajuan this time. Added four points.

3 Stars: Jessica Pearson

As the boss that has to make all the difficult decisions, you love her then you you hate her. The perfect three star.

Not vintage Dajuan Harris in this one. Finished with four points, only four assists, and two turnovers. Defensively, he was strong as always. He had to have a down game (offensively) sometime.

Joseph Yesufu played some decent minutes in the first half. Zach Clemence did so in the second.  Neither played enough to warrant higher or lower ratings.

The same applies to MJ Rice, but his aggressiveness and driving ability could be key to KU going forward. One to watch for sure.

2 Stars: The clients

They make many of these people pretty unlikeable and yet, you’d still want them to win. Or do you? Or do the lawyers? Not really sure if this is a two star or a four star.

Even in an unconvincing win, no one was a two star.

1 Star: Daniel Hardman/Logan Sanders

Jerks. There are others of course, but I haven’t gotten into the later seasons yet. Maybe we’ll do this theme again sometime.

No one was a lowly one either.

Chris Teahan Memorial No Star:

Zuby Ejiofor played sparingly in the first half and Ernest Udeh got in at the very end.
