Big 12 Media Days are already perfect: 42 Days Until Kansas Football

In this story:
College Football is nearing the end of the Media Days season, with the Pac 12 holding their event today without much notice. The ACC has their event over three days next week, but some of the biggest news to come out in the last couple weeks may have actually been about NEXT year's events:
Headed to the Lone Star State. 🤩

That's right, the SEC is using the addition of the Oklahoma Sooners and Texas Longhorns to invade Big 12 territory and hold their season kick-off event in the same metro area as the former home of their new members.
This news spawned multiple questions about whether the Big 12 should consider following the SEC's lead and rotating their media events around the conference footprint.
First; if you’re the Big 12 you can’t surrender DFW to the SEC.

Second; Big 12 Media Days rotating locations like the NFL draft wouldn’t be a bad idea.
Arlington, Orlando, Cincinnati, Kansas City. That could be fun. https://t.co/tNGYNUaXzz
But despite the celebrating online from SEC and Texas fans, I don't think this move is as much of a slam dunk as people seem to think it is. And the Big 12 would be foolish to follow suit and move Media Days away from AT&T Stadium.
The Pac=12 gave us a great example of what happens when you make media days more about the spectacle than the football teams that are supposed to be getting covered.

I mean, the Vegas nightclub is cool and all, but nothing there screams "focus on football" like the Pac-12 Commissioner was trying to convince everyone they were there to discuss (and not the lack of a media deal).
I'm sure that the Omni in Dallas is a great convention center. The SEC will put on a great show, overhyped by the countless numbers of SEC snobs that can't seem to entertain that other people might be just as good as them. But the foothold that they think they are securing in Big 12 territory isn't really that big of a deal, and it's a rare miss for Sankey.
The only way it makes sense for the SEC to compete directly with the Big 12 in Media Days venues is if they could have secured the best venue available in the area. But there is no building that screams football more than Jerryworld, and the Big 12 has that locked up for the forseeable future.

The Big 12 is the only conference that can boast the ability to host Media Days and their Championship events in the same venue. And they are in world-class facilities in the T-Mobile Center for basketball and AT&T Stadium for football.
No matter how cool it would be to see the Big 12 hold court in other locations, it's hard to beat the current setup. Even the "best" conference in the country is jealous.
