Kansas at Nevada Predictions: Nothing to Worry About

The crew gets together to tell you what they expect to see in the late night matchup for the Jayhawks against the Wolf Pack.

The Jayhawks are 2-0 and looking to finish the non-conference with a perfect record for the second straight season as they head to Reno, NV tonight to take on the Nevada Wolf Pack. And based on all the analysis out there, it doesn't appear that the result of this one should be in doubt.

But we've all seen college football before. The weeks where things seem the most certain are the ones where chaos decides to have some fun. Will the Jayhawks fall victim to that chaos? Or will they instead start conference play without a blemish?

Well, I picked Kansas to easily handle Illinois last week, and they did, so no reason not to pick a big win against winless Nevada. The Jayhawks are enormous favorites on the road despite missing two defensive playmakers for the first half of action. Here are the things I’m looking to see in this game: an explosive first half from the KU offense and then some rest for the regulars in the second half, another solid defensive performance from the D-line and linebacking crew, and less penalties that can be misinterpreted as violent conduct. Oh, and an injury free contest. Kansas wins big, gets ranked in both polls, and hosts BYU at a packed Booth next week.

Kansas 52, Nevada 14.

In terms of coaching talent and pretty much everything else that matters, this game is lopsided overwhelmingly in KU’s favor. I wrote about it in this week’s Wednesday Walkthrough, but I think the running game is going to dominate against a bad (read: truly awful) run defense. Neal should get his, but the rest of the rotation should thrive too. Wouldn’t hurt for the defensive line to continue to build confidence and momentum this week, either. Long story short, Kansas should roll in this one and should be 3-0 heading into that huge BYU game.

Kansas 49, Nevada 17.

There is absolutely no excuse for this game being close, short of a bunch of players sitting out to keep injuries from getting worse. But the Jayhawks have a ton of hungry players, and at the very least, this will be an opportunity for everyone to get a bunch of experience. But no matter who plays, Nevada doesn’t have the talent to match up with the Jayhawks. I see Jalon Daniels, Jason Bean and Cole Ballard all getting significant minutes today, and the game never being in doubt.

Kansas 66, Nevada 21.
