The Big 12 continues to eat itself alive, and the Kansas Jayhawks didn't escape from the chaos. After their loss to Oklahoma State on Saturday, the national pollsters decided to drop the Jayhawks from basically every ballot. They were able to hold on to a single point in the Coaches Poll and 2 points in the AP Poll.

I know we said there were some big upsets last week, but this week was even crazier. Pittsburgh upset Louisville in a game that literally no one saw coming, Arizona demolished Washington State from start to finish, Notre Dame blasted previously undefeated USC and Missouri dominated the fourth quarter to beat Kentucky.

The Big 12 is down to just two teams ranked in the polls, with Oklahoma in 6th (AP Poll) and 7th (Coaches Poll) and Texas in 8th in both polls.

Also receiving votes from the Big 12 are West Virginia (1 point) and Oklahoma State (1 point) in the AP Poll, and Oklahoma State (12 points), Kansas State (5 points) and West Virginia (3 points) in the Coaches Poll.

The biggest drops in the poll came from USC, who tumbled 8 spots in the AP Poll and 7 spots in the Coaches Poll, Louisville, who fell 7 spots in the AP Poll and 6 spots in the Coaches Poll, and UCLA, who fell 7 spots in the AP Poll and 3 spots in the Coaches Poll

Jumping into the poll are Tulane, returning for the first time since a loss to Ole Miss, and Air Force, making their first appearance in the poll this season.

There are four games between two ranked teams in this week's slate:

  • #7 Penn State heads to #3 Ohio State for their first real test of the season.
  • #11 Alabama hosts #17 Tennessee
  • #16 Duke tries to hand #4 Florida State their first loss of the season.
  • #14 Utah heads to Los Angeles to try to give #18 USC their second loss in a row, and the first in conference play.

The Jayhawks are on a bye this week, with no realistic shot at getting back into the rankings before their next game. The next action for Kansas is a Homecoming game against the Oklahoma Sooners on October 28th. Kthe only ranked team in action this week. They head on the road to take on Oklahoma State, while both Texas and Oklahoma have a bye week. Meanwhile, a Thursday game at Houston may not be enough to move West Virginia into the polls, while BYU would need an absolute blowout at TCU, plus a lot of help from other teams, to make it all the way into the Top 25.
