Kansas Football receiving votes in both Top 25 Polls

The Jayhawks didn't move into the Top 25, but they are knocking on the door for both rankings

This time it is real, as the Kansas Jayhawks earned votes in both the AP Top 25 and the Coaches Top 25 after their 34-23 win over Illinois in Week 2 of the college football season. Their 19 points in the AP poll puts them in a tie for 28th place with the TCU Horned Frogs and the 17 points in the Coaches poll puts them in 32nd the Coaches Poll,

It was the same point last season that the Jayhawks first started receiving votes, but it took until a 5-0 record and a Week 6 matchup against TCU (with College Gameday in town) for the Jayhawks to actually crack the rankings. This year, it shouldn't take nearly that long if they keep winning.

The Texas Longhorns used a big win against the Alabama Crimson Tide to take a big jump in the polls, moving up to 4th in the AP poll and 6th in Coaches poll. Other Big 12 teams in the AP Poll are Kansas State at 15th and Oklahoma at 19th. Kansas and TCU are joined in getting votes by Cincinnati and Oklahoma State.

In the Coaches Poll, Texas is joined by #15 Kansas State and #16 Oklahoma, with TCU, Kansas , Oklahoma State, UCF and Cincinnati all receiving votes.

Overall, the PAC-12 leads with eight teams in the AP poll and seven in the Coaches poll (Washington State is the first team receiving votes behind #25 UCLA). It's a great early showing for the conference in its final season for 10 of the 12 current members.

There are no games on the schedule this week between two teams ranked in either of the polls. That means that Kansas fans should root for some chaos at the bottom of the poll if they want to see their school in the Top 25 next week. And with the game kicking off at 9:30pm Central time, they will already know just how far they have a chance to move up with a dominant victory against Nevada.
