Kansas Jayhawks' Drop From Top 25 Disappointing.

In completely expected news, Kansas fell from the Top 25 polls. But it's not clear they should have.

It was a really short stay for the Kansas Jayhawks in the polls, as they fell out of both the AP Top 25 and the Coaches Poll after their lopsided loss to the Texas Longhorns in Austin. While the drop in the polls wasn't unexpected, it was a bit disappointing just how far they dropped. Falling from #24, the Jayhawks received just three points in the AP Poll and 11 points in the Coaches Poll.

The Longhorns didn't benefit much from their victory over the Jayhawks, as they stayed steady at #3 in the AP Poll (with 10 first place votes) and moved up a single spot to #4 in the Coaches Poll (with a single first place vote.

The drop for Kansas leaves just two Big 12 teams in the polls. Texas joined by Oklahoma , who moved up another two spots to No. 12 in each poll. Kansas State was the second team in the receiving votes category, while West Virginia joined in both polls and BYU received votes in the Coaches Poll.

The biggest movements this week came from teams that dropped big games. Duke dropped two spots in the AP Poll, but five in the Coaches Poll after they lost at home to Clemson. Utah dropped by eight in the AP Poll and nine in the Coaches Poll after a loss to Oregon State. And LSU dropped double digit spots in each poll after losing a shootout to Ole Miss. Oregon State and Ole Miss each jumped up 5 spots after their wins.

There are two huge ranked-on-ranked matchups this week, with Texas and Oklahoma in the Red River Rivalry headlining the action. The evening will feature a ranked Kentucky squad taking on a suddenly vulnerable #1 Georgia team.

As for the Jayhawks, I'm not surprised that the lopsided margin caused them to drop out, although I would have preferred that voters take the relatively close game for the first 3 quarters combined with Jalon Daniels being out as a sign that maybe the team still deserves to be ranked.
