Lance Leipold immediately linked to open Nebraska job.

In this story:
It didn't take long. After Kansas scored a huge victory in Morgantown on a day of mayhem in college football, the rumblings started. Alex Kirshner of Split Zone Duo seems impressed enough by the job that Lance Leipold has done to tweet this:
Lance Leipold is the man to fix Nebraska. I'm convinced

There was some immediate pushback from fans around the country, but I think the general consensus is that he could turn them around.
And Sunday morning, Nebraska officially parted ways with Scott Frost.

It didn't take long for Leipold to get mentioned as a potential replacement for Frost.
Names for Nebraska: Matt Campbell, Mark Stoops, Dave Aranda, Bill O’Brien, Lance Leipold, Jim Leonard, PJ Fleck, Chris Klieman, Dave Doeren, Sam Pittman, Alex Grinch, Matt Entz, Bret Bielema, Jamey Chadwell and Troy Calhoun.

What isn't clear is if this is a list that Nebraska is working from, or just the writer's opinion about where they should start. But it's fair to say that the national perception is that the momentum Kansas has is real.
But the one thing that people seem to be counting on is that Nebraska can throw enough money at Leipold to convince him to leave. I'm not sure that's actually the case.
There is a big difference between going from a Group of Five school to a Power 5 conference school and going from one historically underachieving school that you've already started to turn around to another historically underachieving team that's a complete mess. He has unfinished business here, and I'm not sure there is enough money to make him leave for a place that has shown a horrible lack of patience and a long pattern of unrealistic expectations.
And if you tell me that Nebraska will just back up a money truck, well good luck. They have a huge payout to Scott Frost coming.
Nebraska paid $24.2 million JUST IN BUYOUTS to start and end the Scott Frost era:
— Andrew Doughty (@DoughtyBetMGM) September 11, 2022
$6.2 million buyout to fire Mike Riley
$3 million buyout UCF to hire Frost
$15 million buyout to fire Frost
Another $20+ million in salary and bonuses.
He won 16 games.
Of course being willing to pay that kind of buyout might lead you to conclude that money is not an issue. But Travis Goff has already extended Leipold's contract once.i wouldn't expect any hesitation if he needed to be extended again.
Long story short, Kansas fans should be excited that the head coach is doing enough to get noticed. But there is no reason to panic. Nebraska isn't going to take Leipold. At least not without a fight.
