Live Blog: Duke Blue Devils at Kansas Jayhawks Updates

In this story:
The Kansas Jayhawks take on the Duke Blue Devils today in a battle of the unbeatens.
I'll be giving updates live throughout the game here, so make sure you check back frequently. You can also follow live updates on the Blue Wings Rising and Rock Chalk Podcast Twitter accounts, and join the conversation in our Discord server.
2:15pm: Pretty much everything that could go against Kansas did there, but an incomplete 4th and 7 pass gives Kansas the win.
VICTORY FORMATION.
— Kansas Football (@KU_Football) September 24, 2022
2:13pm: TERRIBLE call on a late hit out of bounds. He was clearly still inbounds with both feet. Even Oklahoma State fans agree.
2:10pm: Kansas doesn't convert and punts the ball, downed at the five. But there are a lot of not happy Kansas fans online.
Not sure how you could watch the D this quarter and say, “sure we’ll just punt it back”

Like football coaches really don’t understand how to manage clock.
— Bryson Stricker (@BryBryStrick) September 24, 2022
You’ve up 8, why are you playing to not lose? You literally can’t lose yet
2:06pm: More nervous energy in the stadium, but Duke kicks the onside kick attempt out of bounds.
2:03pm: The stadium is hyped up during this timeout. The fans are doing everything they can to help.
1:58pm: Kansas is trying to put a bow on this one. Up by two scores with 4 minutes left, Cobee Bryant gets a third down stop and the stadium is LOUD for the 4th down play.
They absolutely lose it when Dotson gets called for pass interference.
1:55pm: Daniels runs in a touchdown this time and has 5 touchdowns for the second straight game.
1:54pm: Skinner got spun around as he made a big catch, and we all were like Nick here:
How in the hell did Skinner catch that?
— Nick Schwerdt (@nick_schwerdt) September 24, 2022
1:50pm: Big offensive plays from the Jayhawks. These reactions are now normal.
Big plays by Lawrence Arnold and Daniel Hishaw.
— Rock Chalk Podcast (@RockChalkPod) September 24, 2022
Nothing out of the ordinary.
Jalon Daniels for Heisman
— Thor Nystrom (@thorku) September 24, 2022
Jalon Daniels should be getting heisman buzz, his stat lines are ridiculous
— Sidelines Sports Network™ (@Sidelines_SN) September 24, 2022
1:43pm: Duke making this one a little tighter than the fans would like. You can feel the tension in the building, which is a huge improvement.
1:27pm: The Kansas offensive line has finally allowed a sack, as Duke takes Daniels down for a four yard loss late in the 3rd quarter.
1:24pm: This stadium is electric! Huge roar as they convert another 3rd and long for a first down.
Just me and 50K of my closest friends. #KUfball pic.twitter.com/2osxh8Rv1K
— Dillon Davis (@dillondavis3) September 24, 2022
1:20pm: Big hit by Marvin Grant was reviewed for potential targeting, but they ruled it was a legal hit. Duke punts and Kansas has a chance to put this one out of reach.
GET HIM A BODYBAG!

1:09pm: That was an absolute strike from Daniels to Lawrence Arnold.
The 4th touchdown pass of the day from @JalonDaniels6, this one to @LjArnold318! #kufball https://t.co/Bf7k9AUOX5
— 580 Sports Talk (@580SportsTalk) September 24, 2022
TOUCHDOWN 🔥
— Kansas Football (@KU_Football) September 24, 2022
JD 36-yard strike to Lawrence Arnold! 28-13 Hawks. pic.twitter.com/pvEvW8DHAT
1:08pm: Good news for Kansas.
Devin Neal is back on the field. #KUfball
— Michael Swain (@MSwain247) September 24, 2022
1:04pm: The stadium erupted there, as Kansas stops Duke on 4th and inches.
12:54pm: The stadium is ready to explode after a controversial call gives Duke a first down by penalty.
Bad, bad mechanics by back judge at Kansas. There is no way that is a late hit on KU. 3 officials around the ball. None called it. Back judge threw flag 20 yds downfield. KU defender slid into Leonard. Incidental contact. He'll be dinged in review this week. Flag happy, there.
— Dennis Dodd (@dennisdoddcbs) September 24, 2022
12:45pm: Getting ready for the second half. Hype tape got a similar reaction coming into half that it did at the start of the game.

12:26pm: Duke has come close to turning it over a few times today, but Kansas hasn't been able to cash in. Duke kicks a field goal to get within 8 with 3 seconds left.
12:18pm: Not sure if his day is done, but Devin Neal is going back to the locker room early before the half.
Devin Neal is headed to the locker room. #kufball
— Jordan Guskey (@JordanGuskey) September 24, 2022
12:14pm: Luke Grimm's 4th catch gives the Jayhawks another touchdown, but that pass has other fanbases swooning:
jalon daniels is so fucking good
— The Smoking Musket (@smokingmusket) September 24, 2022
12:11pm: Seems like the stadium isn't the only place seeing a lot more excitement.
For those watching at home, the guy calling the KU game is the Charlotte Hornets PxP guy, Eric Collins, and he might be the most electric broadcaster this side of Gus Johnson.
— Nick Schwerdt (@nick_schwerdt) September 24, 2022
12:06pm: Kansas gets the defensive stop, holding Duke to just a field goal. Kansas has the ball back to try and score again before half.
12:03pm: Dotson already back in, but some minor dings are happening across the roster. Nothing to worry about right now it seems.
11:57am: Couple of injuries to watch. Mello Dotson came off after a big hit. Devin Neal was in the medical tent after the last offensive drive. And DJ Withers came off during the drive as well.
11:50am: Here is that amazing touchdown catch and run:
KANSAS!! WHAT A PLAY BY DANIEL HISHAW🔥

11:48am: Daniel Hishaw runs through some people to get to the end zone on a ridiculous 73-yard touchdown reception.
There were lots of reactions:
Hishaw THAT WAS INSANE
— Kansas Boo Blood (@BlueBloodsBlue) September 24, 2022
Touchdown Kansas.
— Matt Tait (@mctait) September 24, 2022
Daniel Hishaw does what all those fans of his in Moore, Oklahoma saw him do a thousand times... Refused to go down. Heck of a run after the catch there. #KUfball now leads Duke 14-7 with 12:35 to play in the 1st half. TD catch went for 73 yards.
Hishaw made FIVE different Duke players miss tackles on that play, and then he outran every one of the others that didn’t touch him. One of the greatest catches and runs in Kansas football history. That was spectacular!
— Rock Chalk Blog (@RockChalkBlog) September 24, 2022
A ridiculous 73-yard touchdown catch-and-run from Kansas RB Daniel Hishaw. Jayhawks go up 14-0 with 12:35 to go in the 2Q. #kufball
— Conner Becker (@ctbecker) September 24, 2022
11:45am: The run has been pretty easy for Kansas, but this crowd seems to be on edge for a big passing play. Same for the TV crowd.
Waiting for some deep balls here from KU. Gotta be opening up downfield.
— Mike Vernon (@M_Vernon) September 24, 2022
11:43am: A dangerous pass bouncing around in the secondary falls incomplete. Kansas has the ball back still tied at 7.
The box score won't show that, but two Duke players had a chance to catch it as is ping-ponged around in the secondary.
— Rock Chalk Podcast (@RockChalkPod) September 24, 2022
Duke punts and Kansas takes over at their own 27.
11:36am: Neal fumbled. Duke takes over. No energy in the stadium as the first quarter ends.
11:31am: Kardell got a career-first on the Kansas touchdown drive:
First career TD for @trevorkardell 💪 pic.twitter.com/mASyk3LSXq
— Kansas Football (@KU_Football) September 24, 2022
11:30am: Quick drive by Duke down the field to score has sucked some energy out of the stadium.
Hey that sucked.
— Brendan Dzwierzynski (@BrendanDzw) September 24, 2022
11:25am: Stadium is pretty full right now. Only section with chunks of empty seats is right behind the touchdown club, which isn't sold since you can't see the field.
As full as I’ve ever seen the stadium.
— Scott Chasen (@ChasenScott) September 24, 2022
(Left is touchdown club, they don’t sell the obstructed seats. Right is Duke section.) pic.twitter.com/3gpO3Ec0CS
11:21am: Some fantastic blocking is followed up by some misdirection, and the Jayhawks score first! Trevor Kardell caught a 6-yard TD pass from Jalon Daniels.
11:15am: Kansas defense holds strong, and Duke goes three-and-out. OJ Burroughs with the punt return to the Kansas 43. The crowd is pumped up.
11:09am: Kansas drove down the field with ease, but stalled on 1st and goal. Neal ruled short on the 4th down run from the 1, and the crowd is NOT happy.
11:02am: Duke wins the toss and defers to the second half. Crowd is amped up as we get ready for kickoff.
Crowd sounds awesome on TV
— Mike Vernon (@M_Vernon) September 24, 2022
10:57am: Big cheer for Tony Sands as he comes to raise the flag during the pregame ceremony. Hype tape on the big screen is getting some big cheers.
10:50am: Seats are filling up as the band finishes their pregame. Will still have some empty seats at kickoff, but it is much fuller than I've seen it in a while.
Marching band is on the field. Stands are already filling up. Visitor side is getting full, bowl still has a lot of empty seats.
— Andy Mitts (@AndyMitts12) September 24, 2022
But a LOT of people still trying to get in.
Still thirteen minutes to kickoff. pic.twitter.com/YjCgjlLIqK
10:35am: Kansas is out on the field wearing all red uniforms with white helmets. Duke is in all white. Should be a clean look on the broadcast.
Jayhawks warming up on the field.
