LIVE Updates: Texas Longhorns at Kansas Jayhawks

In this story:
The Kansas Jayhawks take on the Oklahoma State Cowboys in a bid to qualify for a bowl game and against a squad that is expected to be without many important pieces.
I'll be giving updates live from the stadium throughout the game here, so make sure you check back frequently. You can also follow live updates on the Rock Chalk Podcast and Blue Wings Rising Twitter accounts, and join the conversation in our Discord server.
5:43pm: I'm going to call this one here. All is not lost with this team, but this was clearly a very disappointing performance.
Plus, I'm kind of done with this:
There's a definitely not mad Texas fan replying to a bunch of media tweets (including ours) about the last Kansas touchdown to make sure they know Texas has their backups in.
— Brendan Dzwierzynski (@BrendanDzw) November 19, 2022
That is a wild level of fandom fragility.
Make sure you tune in to all of our coverage this week as we wrap this one and get ready for the Sunflower Showdown.
5:36pm: Another long touchdown run for Texas, and the fans on Twitter are getting restless...
5:25pm: Some positive plays for the offense, as Jalon Daniels finally hits a few passes and scrambles to get the touchdown. At this point, it's all about working Daniels back in to the lineup.
I’m glad they kept JD in there all game today. He needs all the in game reps he can get…he was rusty early on and some throws sailed on him but he’s made some really good throws late today
— Braiden Turner (@bturner23) November 19, 2022
5:17pm: Texas is still playing like this one is in doubt. Calling timeouts to yell at players.
Sark just threw his headset.
— Kevin Flaherty (@KFlahertyKCSN) November 19, 2022
5:08pm: The third quarter is over, and Kansas is down 41-7.
5:02pm: Kansas finally gets on the board on a 14 yard pass to Torry Locklin. But even the announcers have checked out of this one:
Hahaha. Kansas finally gets a touchdown and announcer credits "Terry" Locklin.
— Kevin Flaherty (@KFlahertyKCSN) November 19, 2022
4:52pm: Texas methodically moves down the field, and only gets stopped when a false start penalty puts them behind the sticks. Texas settled for a field goal, and now it's 41-0 Texas.
4:40pm: Kansas gets a first down, and then gets to 4th and 2. The playcall is as predictable as they come and Kansas turns it over on downs.
4:34pm: Bijan Robinson out here making everyone look silly.
Congratulations to your @Big12Conference Offensive Player of the Week!! https://t.co/KWzM6Fphfm

4:30pm: Not a great start to the half, as Kansas goes three and out and punts the ball.
4:06pm: Kansas ends the half on a sour note, with the called back touchdown being converted anyway on a Bijan hurdle over the line.
Seniors playing one last game for David Beaty #kufball
— Mike Vernon (@M_Vernon) November 19, 2022
4:02pm: Texas is doing whatever they want offensively, as Kansas can't seem to stop Bijan Robinson. The only thing preventing another touchdown was that he stepped out just short of the goal line.
3:57pm: Unfortunately, there isn't a good option at QB for Kansas right now, especially if you are trying to make a huge comeback in the second half.
Look, #KUfball is in a lose/lose/lose situation at QB.
— Michael Swain (@MSwain247) November 19, 2022
-Jalon Daniels is out there and doesn't look 100%, understandably so.
-Bean isn't at full health either.
-Ethan Vasko — the third string QB — is a true freshman who has played 8 snaps.
There's isn't a clear avenue, IMO.
3:54pm: Jalon Daniels had a scramble drill pass tipped, and we have our first turnover of the game.

3:45pm: It was announced on the broadcast (and I agree as I looked at the replay) that there should not have been a penalty there. Then Texas scores a touchdown on the other side thanks to a corner being shoved to the ground to prevent an interception.
3:37pm: Just a brutal sequence. Kansas had a touchdown pass on 4th and 1 called back for an ineligible man downfield and then Jacob Borcila missed the 35-yard field goal.
Kansas should never attempt a FG again.
— @vivamatadoresSBN (@CCCFFSN) November 19, 2022
3:30pm: The offense is starting to show some life after a couple good passes from Jalon Daniels.
Man what a ball to 89.
— Jayhawk Talk (@JayhawkTalk) November 19, 2022
3:26pm: First review of the day on a fairly nasty hit the helmet on Daniels after he threw the ball on a scramble. Tucker-Dorsey for Texas is ejected but there is no yardage gain.
Daniels took a nasty hit directly to the head, and they called targeting on it.
— Rock Chalk Podcast (@RockChalkPod) November 19, 2022
Leipold was so irate about it that they called sideline interference on Kansas.
Penalties are both enforced. It's first down for Kansas but no yardage on the penalties.
3:20pm: Kansas holds the Longhorns to just a field goal, after getting helped by a Texas holding penalty. But that was more because Texas decided to do something they shouldn't have:
Why is Texas ever throwing? Serious, it makes no sense whatsoever. Just direct snap it, even, cut out the middle man.
— Brendan Dzwierzynski (@BrendanDzw) November 19, 2022
3:16pm: Add to the list of miscues for the Jayhawks, as they jump offsides and give Texas a first down on 4th and 4.
3:12pm: The first quarter is over, and the Jayhawks have picked up a whopping 44 yards. Texas has 146, with 104 of those on the ground.
3:05pm: Kansas finally got something going with multiple fourth downs, but a stuff on 3rd and 1 and then a pass in the flat to Tanaka Scott went nowhere.
Play out in the flat was sniffed out easily by Texas. Loss of two and the ball goes back to Texas.
— Rock Chalk Podcast (@RockChalkPod) November 19, 2022
2:58pm: Bijan again, running it in from 17 yards out this time. Kansas is down by two scores in the first quarter again.
Doesn't really matter what the offense does if Bijan is going to run like this, so that sucks.
— Brendan Dzwierzynski (@BrendanDzw) November 19, 2022
But also, I'd like to see the offense do something! Anything!
2:56pm: Not sure that drive could have been any worse for Kansas. Logan misplayed the kick-off, and then Daniels missed another pass on 3rd down. Then the punt got returned to the KU 28.
2:51pm: It's going to be a long day if Kansas can't buckle up on defense
The rush defense is looking too much like it did in Lubbock. You have to make Ewers throw. #kufball
— All Jayhawks (@all_jayhawks) November 19, 2022
2:50pm: Not a great drive from the Kansas defense, as Texas ran the ball seemingly at will to get the touchdown
Bijan Robinson takes it in from the 2-yard line.
— JayhawkSlant (@JayhawkSlant) November 19, 2022
Texas just went 68 yards on nine plays and made that drive look fairly easy.
Texas 7
KU 0
7:50 left in the first. #kufball
2:46pm: Up-tempo offense from Texas is not a good sign...
Texas going up-tempo early on is not a good sign for the #KUfball defense. The Jayhawks have struggled against fast offenses this season.
— Michael Swain (@MSwain247) November 19, 2022
2:41pm: Three and out for Kansas after Jalon Daniels overshoot Quentin Skinner on the deep route. Looks like this is going to be a fun one today.
2:37pm: Jalon Daniels is indeed starting at quarterback. Shaky first pass that nearly turned into an immediate interception, but Luke Grimm gets it on the bobble.
2:35pm: Malcolm Lee stops the Texas drive by knocking down a Quinn Ewers pass at the line on third down. Nothing going for Texas early.
2:30pm: Conflicting reports right now on who is starting at quarterback for the Jayhawks, as Jason Bean was announced as the starter during introductions, but Brett McMurphy is reporting the Jalon Daniels will be starting:
Kansas QB Jalon Daniels, who hasn't played since Oct. 8 injury vs. TCU, will start today vs. Texas, source told @ActionNetworkHQ
