Oklahoma State Cowboys at Kansas Jayhawks Predictions: Who's Healthy?

In this story:

The Kansas Jayhawks get back to the field today looking for the final win that they need to qualify for a bowl this season, and the opponent is an Oklahoma State Cowboys squad that is reeling after a huge loss to Kansas State and an unknown quarterback situation.

With questions about the health of not only Spencer Sanders but also a bunch of other important players on the roster, can the Cowboys generate enough points to outscore the high-octane offense for the Jayhawks?

K-State picked just about the worst time to humiliate Oklahoma State, so my prediction is that the Cowboys are gonna be mad. Now does that mean that they’ll be mad enough to beat a Kansas team coming off a bye week where starting QB Jalon Daniels is getting healthy? Well, in a word, yes. Firstly, we don’t know if it’ll be Jason Bean or Daniels or a combo of both, and two, with the exception of the KSU debacle, the Pokes are still scoring an average of 39 points per game. I think it’ll be too much and bowl eligibility will have to wait yet another week.

I would, obviously, feel much better about this game if Jalon Daniels is healthy enough to play, but I actually have good vibes for this game regardless. The spread has moved as much as a touchdown in some places, and I have a hunch (but no inside information) that it’ll be Gunnar Gundy who gets the call for Oklahoma State. If that’s the case, this becomes a much more manageable outing for the KU defense. Avoid the costly penalties on defense, take care of the ball on offense and I think the Jayhawks will clinch bowl eligibility.

After getting refreshed and tuned up on the bye week the Jayhawks will start into one of the toughest remaining schedules in college football. The first game on the slate is at home against the Oklahoma State Cowboys. The Cowboys will be starting freshman quarterback Gunar Gundy. The Jayhawks‘ defense should take full advantage of this opportunity to disrupt a young quarterback on the road in a packed David Booth Memorial Stadium.

Quarterback Jalon Daniels returned to practice and no matter whether he gets the nod or Jason Bean the Jayhawks' offense will be taking on one of the worst defenses in the Big 12. The Cowboys are ranked last in the Big 12 allowing 455.3 yards to their opponent per game. Oklahoma State is also ranked 9th in the Big 12 surrendering 31.1 points per game. For a Kansas Jayhawks’ offense that has been high-powered for the majority of the season, this should indicate some points will be scored.

The majority of the oddsmakers have this game relatively close in the spread with Kansas being favored by one at home. The over/under is currently at 63. If OSU’s Spencer Sanders was playing this would be a no brainer. I still expect the over to be hit in this game especially with beautiful weather being forecasted.

A huge shift in the line during the week tells me that there is some not-so-public information that came in to help the Jayhawks. My gut tells me that it is related to the status of Spencer Sanders. But even if he is available, the Oklahoma State offense has been getting progressively worse with him in the game, largely due to the deteriorating health and depth situation for the Cowboys.

Kansas is coming off the idle week rejuvenated and ready to make some noise, while Oklahoma State is limping into the final four weeks of the season after having a really early break. I don't know if Jalon Daniels will start, but even if he doesn't, the Kansas offense has enough fire power to take this victory. Plus the Oklahoma State running game is nowhere consistent enough to take advantage of the Kansas defense.
