Jack Utz is a 6-foot-4 215-pound tight end from Platte County High School. Utz recently received an offer from Kansas on February 5th, 2024, and spoke with Blue Wings Rising in the past weeks. Following that I took a deep dive into his recruitment tape to see exactly who Jack Utz is as a football player. This is what I found.

Strengths:

Size: Utz is already the prototypical size for a tight end at the college level standing at 6-foot-4 and weighing in at 215-pounds. Utz still has another two seasons in high school meaning his growth is likely far from over.

Blocking: Utz Is already an elite blocker at the tight end position. With his combination of size and physicality Utz is almost like having a 6th offensive lineman on the field at all times. Utz shows impressive hand placement and body control for his position while also possessing the size and strength to finish blocks.

Catching: Utz has very reliable hands that should translate well to the next level. He also showed the ability to make difficult catches when needed and with the combination of his size and reliable hands, Utz should be a reliable and dangerous red zone threat.

Things to work on:

Athleticism: Utz seems to lack separation speed even at the high school level. If not improved this will pose a major problem as he will not be able to create the space he needs to succeed in passing situations at the next level. Utz’s acceleration also seems to be lackluster at best as he struggles to reach his max speed limiting his run-after-catch abilities.
