Three Keys for the Kansas Jayhawks Against the Nevada Wolf Pack

Here is what we need to see from the Jayhawks in some Big 12 After Dark action.

The Kansas Jayhawks are once again in action on a Friday night, but this time they have a Power Five opponent on the other side: The Illinois Fighting Illini. And while they dominated the first game of the season, this one will require them to do some very specific things to prevail in what will likely be a close game.

So here are my top three keys to Friday night's game in David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium.

Immediate Pressure

Nevada's offensive line is abysmal. The USC defense got 5 sacks without much effort, and the Wolf Pack only converts 30.3% of their third downs. They have a total of 4 turnovers (2 fumbles, 2 interceptions) and 167 total rushing yards.

If there was ever a game that Kansas could be without one of their pass rushing weapons, this is it. The Jayhawks should still be able to overwhelm Nevada often and early, forcing Nevada into mistakes and punts. Lots of punts.

Spread the Ball Around

The Jayhawks have so many weapons and are going against a team that can't seem to stop anything. Nevada allowed 668 yards against USC and 463 yards against Idaho. The Jayhawks should be able to rack up the yards the same way.

And since the Jayhawks have so many different players that can find those yards, I expect a lot of players to get action. Expect to see three quarterbacks and at least 4 running backs in this one, plus all the wide receivers and tight ends down the depth chart.

No Injuries

This one seems obvious, but there really is no reason to think that this game will be a problem at all. If there is any chance that a guy could injure himself and not be available later this year, don't play him.

I don't care if Kansas wins by 10 or by 50, if they come out of the game with a win and no extra injuries, I'll be happy.
