Lance Leipold has talked multiple times about how important it is for the Kansas Jayhawks to find success recruiting in-state prospects. Which is why the recent developments surrounding Kyle Keya are so encouraging.

Kyle Keya is a 2025 three-star edge rusher from Kapaun Mt Carmel Catholic High School in Wichita, Kansas. He measures around 6-foot-4 and 200 pounds and currently has four offers: Kansas, Oklahoma State, Iowa State, and Marshall. But plenty of other high level schools are interested.

Keya has already logged two unofficial visits to Lawrence to see the Jayhawks. Blue Wings Rising recently caught up with him to talk about his feelings about Kansas.

“It means a lot that they offered me,” Keya stated to Blue Wings Rising. “It means that they see potential in me to help them win games at the next level. It means they want me around their community, it means they trust me both as a player and as a student.”

“I spoke to Coach Leipold, Coach Onatulu, several of the recruiters, the linebacker coach, and the defensive coordinator. They emphasize the importance of family and community. The staff are clearly close to each other, as several of them have worked together before, so they have good chemistry. It’s clear they enjoy coaching with each other because, I believe, most of them stayed instead of taking jobs at other colleges.”

Diving a bit deeper into Kansas and what makes them unique Keya stated, “It’s close to home and I would get to visit my family very often. My relationships with the coaches are also very close there.”

He also talked about a potential visit in the near future as well. “I plan on attending a spring practice and maybe a camp this summer!”
