While the 2025 recruiting class for the Kansas Jayhawks is starting to get fleshed out, there is one prospect who has been committed to the class for quite a while. David McComb, a 6-foot-3, 215-pound, 3-star Quarterback from Memorial High School in Edmond, OK, has been committed to Kansas since July 7th, 2023. I did a deep dive into his recruiting film to see what Kansas fans might expect when he gets on the field. This is what I found.

Strengths

Speed: McComb isn’t just fast for a Quarterback, McComb has shown what would be great speed at almost any position on the field. As a freshman, he ran an 11.68 100 meter which is faster than Stephon Diggs who ran a personal best of 12 in high school. His elite speed makes him a nightmare for defenses and a dream come true for coaches as he adds a whole other dimension to their offense.

Pocket presence/awareness: McComb has a distinct ability to maneuver around the pocket to step up and make his throw or get out of the pocket for a gain with his legs. He seems to keep a level head even when pressure is coming and seems to have a sixth sense of identifying pressure. His ability to maintain a level head even when the pocket begins to collapse shows patience and maturity that sets him apart from most high school quarterbacks.

Throwing on the run: McComb has no issue throwing on the run. At times it looked to be his best trait as he was able to do it consistently and under pressure. McComb was also able to get the ball out at different angles allowing him to throw around or over defenders to get it to his target. He was able to accomplish this in difficult situations including cross body throws and off balance throws.

Things to work on:

Arm strength: McComb’s arm strength isn’t bad by any means but it is something that he could look to improve before going to the next level. An improvement in arm strength will help him with his deep ball and help him to be able to get the ball into tighter windows making him even more of a threat.

Accuracy: McComb has overall solid accuracy but has shown inconsistencies. His accuracy has improved every year so far but still has a ways to go before it is where it needs to be. If he can improve the consistency of his accuracy to go along with all the other tools he has as a player the sky’s the limit for David McComb.
