LSU Football Surges to No. 1 Spot for Top Texas Longhorns, Oklahoma Sooners Target

In this story:
McKinney (Tex.) Lewisville four-star cornerback Taelyn Mayo has quickly emerged as a priority prospect for Lane Kiffin and the LSU Tigers as his meteoric rise in the 2027 Recruiting Cycle continues.
Mayo checks in as a top-five rated cornerback in the Lone Star State with a flurry of Southeastern Conference schools fighting for his commitment this offseason.
The 6-foot-3, 170-pounder is the prototype defensive back LSU secondary coach Corey Raymond looks for with his tall frame sticking out like a sore thumb - where he's earned offers from the likes of LSU, Texas, Texas A&M, Oklahoma, Alabama, and Florida, among several others.
According to Rivals, "Taelyn Mayo has rare size for the corner position, pushing 6-foot-3. The talented junior is rated the No. 133 player nationally in the Rivals Industry Ranking. His recruitment could develop in to a classic Texas- Oklahoma battle."
But the LSU Tigers are surging as legit contenders after Mayo made his way to Baton Rouge this past weekend on an unofficial visit with the program as Raymond, Kiffin, and the LSU Tigers coaching staff look to work their magic.

According to 247Sports, the LSU Tigers have surged into pole position at the No. 1 slot after the weekend visit to campus.
LSU has navigated offseason workouts in Baton Rouge with four days of Spring Camp now in the rearview mirror where Mayo was seen on the sidelines during Saturday's practice.
The coveted cornerback stuck out immediately with his 6-foot-3 stature looking the part as he watched on at the defensive backs from the practice field.
The LSU defense has Kiffin's attention this offseason where he's praised coordinator Blake Baker and the job hes done:
"Obviously playing LSU every year like we did at the previous place, you got to watch the transformation defensively when Blake got here and how that worked and how much they improved each season," Kiffin said on Tuesday.
"I was very pleased that we were able to keep him. That really helps with player transition. If you start over on both sides, it's like you're creating an expansion team nowadays. Because you have to basically start everything from scratch. The majority of the players leave the place so it was really critical to keep him."
