Miami's Two Star Hitters Named to Golden Spikes Award Midseason Watch List

As Miami continues to hit up, other list have started to honor some of the top players in the country.
Miami Hurricanes baseball standouts Daniel Cuvet and Derek Williams have been named to the 2026 USA Baseball Golden Spikes Award Midseason Watch List, USA Baseball announced Thursday.
"Yeah, it's super cool. It's a great honor to be recognized amongst the best in the country, and it just shows my ability to do my thing, it just shows," Cuvet said. "I didn't do my thing, but it was also just an honor to be on that list with those guys."
The third baseman earns a spot on the midseason watch list, now three years in a row after also appearing on last season’s semifinalist list and this year’s preseason watch list.
Through 29 games, the Fort Lauderdale, Fla., native is batting .311 with 33 hits in 106 at-bats, totaling 41 runs scored, nine doubles, 10 home runs, and 36 RBI. Cuvet is also chasing history to be the Hurricanes' all-time leading home run leader. He is currently tied for third.
He has also recorded multiple RBI in nine games this season and has reached base safely in 24 of 29 contests.
"I really just want to win in college, especially in my last year, which for me means more than anything right now, and that's kind of where my heart is, and you know, I'm just looking forward to showing up every day and helping this team win," Cuvet said.

The Golden Spikes Award, presented annually since 1978, honors the nation’s top amateur baseball player based on on-field performance, sportsmanship, and overall contribution to the game. Miami’s Pat Burrell is the only Hurricane to win the award in 1988.
The watch list will continue to be updated throughout the season before semifinalists are announced on May 14, followed by finalists on June 10 and the winner on June 29.
"I really just want to win in college, especially in my last year, which for me means more than anything right now, and that's kind of where my heart is, and you know, I'm just looking forward to showing up every day and helping this team win," Cuvet said.
Miami will battle Virginia Tech for a three-game series at Mark Light Field at Alex Rodriguez Park, as the Canes look for their third series win in a row.
