Hurricanes Wing Listed As One Of The Top NBA Prospects In The ACC

Miami Freshman Listed As Second Best NBA Prospect Behind Duke's Kyle Filipowski

Heading into the season there wasn't anybody saying that Kyshawn George could be an NBA prospect in his freshman season, but today he's firmly in that conversation.

In a recent list shared by Jamie Shaw of On3, George was listed as the second best NBA Prospect in the ACC. George comes one spot behind Duke center Kyle Filipowski and ahead of Virginia's Ryan Dunn, Wake Forest's Hunter Sallis and Duke's Jared McCain.

Many will be quick to point out George's stats, that don't jump off the page to anyone. However, it's his physical tools as well as what he's flashed on the court that intrigue NBA scouts.

George earned the starting role over Bensley Joseph for their matchup at Syracuse and has been in the drivers seat since. Across 15 starts this season, George has averaged:

10.2 PPG, 3.2 RPG, 3.0 APG, 1.3 SPG, 40.9% 3PT

George is now coming off back-to-back double-digit scoring efforts with 16 points against Georgia Tech and 14 points at North Carolina. He'll have at least three more games to show scouts what he can bring to the table and add to his tape.

In terms of 2024 NBA Draft rankings/mock drafts, George is ranked 27th by ESPN and mocked 34th by Bleacher Report.

While I'm an advocate for George and do see the NBA potential in him, I'm not quite sold on him being viewed as the second best prospect in this conference. If I were to redo these rankings, I would have George at third with McCain moving to the first spot. On an unrelated note, I'm not sure if Sallis is a top five NBA prospect in the conference despite how good he's been as a player.

Regardless, the draft buzz continues to build for George and his decision to return or declare will be one of the top headlines of the offseason for Miami.
