Miami's Upset Attempt Comes Up Short, Falls 75-71 To North Carolina

RJ Davis' Career-High 42 Points Extends Miami's Losing Streak To Seven With Two Games Left In The Regular Season

If you could write a gut-wrenching script for Miami in this game, it probably wouldn't be this painful.

Despite UNC leading by 14 points in the second half, the Hurricanes brought it within two points late but couldn't close out RJ Davis and the North Carolina Tar Heels as they fell 75-71 and extended their losing streak to seven games in a row.

As mentioned, this was simply Davis and the Tar Heels tonight as the senior guard posted a career-high and venue-high 42 points. The runaway candidate for ACC Player of the Year, Davis really didn't receive any offensive help from his teammates as he was the only double-digit scorer.

For the Hurricanes, it was a brutal way to go out as they failed to grab a defensive rebound twice after North Carolina free throw misses which might have very well decided this game. Miami got free throw misses from Davis and Seth Trimble but conceded offensive boards to the Tar Heels.

On top of this all, Miami was without Nijel Pack and Wooga Poplar, making this loss wonder what could've happened had Miami been healthy in this game.

Offensively for Miami, the Hurricanes shot it effectively from behind the arc at 46.7%. Leading the way for Miami was Norchad Omier who hit a career-high four threes in his 22-point outing. Bensley Joseph also had a career night with 21 points on five made threes.

Additionally, Kyshawn George continued his solid stretch of play with 14 points with 50% shooting from the field and four made threes. With all the injuries Miami has sustained, George is starting to get recognized by more media outlets as a potential 2024 NBA Draft prospect. He's averaging 15 points per game across his last two outings.

Now with their losing streak at seven, Miami will look to put an end to it next week on Senior Night (March 6) when they host the Boston College Eagles for their final home game of the season. Miami concludes the regular season with a road matchup at Florida State (March 9).
