Being 'Patient and Consistent' Shapes CharMar Brown's Goals for This Season

CORAL GABLES, Fla. — Think back to the Miami Hurricanes' battle against Ohio State in the 2026 Cotton Bowl.
The Hurricanes dominated on both ends of the field but were still in a close battle against the Buckeyes until the very last drive. Offensively, the Canes would ride the back of one man who would wait his turn and would carry the team to victory.
“I learned just to be patient and just be consistent, be ready when your name is called, really," Miami running back CharMar Brown said after Monday's Fall Camp practice.
Brown was the 1B to Mark Fletcher Jr. during the College Football Playoff run, but it took some time before he got on the field. Now he has grown into a star back for the Canes who others also see compeiting at a high level.
It is what shapes the Hurricanes this season, something his running mate Fletcher harped on heading into this season.
“Definitely added some fuel to the fire, but we’ve got to just look at it differently,” Fletcher said. “You’ve just got to learn from it and continue to move on. But it’s a completely different team, and with all the new guys coming in — freshmen and transfers — we’re just continuing to emphasize the message of last year. It’s a whole new year, and it’s about what the 2026 Hurricanes do.”
Brown looks to follow Fletcher in the same role as a team leader, even if he is not as vocal as the star running back.
“I feel like I have … I’m not as vocal a leader, but I try to come in and try to be consistent every day in terms of my process and leading the younger guys and making sure they’re doing the right things and being that older guy they can always come talk to.”
Moreover, given the room's depth, listening to Brown could be the key to unlocking what this team can be. Miami's offense will still lean heavily on the run game, but as Carson Beck's arm continues to flourish in Arizona, it's clear the Canes were limited because of his injury.
Now with Darian Mensah, a balanced attack could push the Canes to averaging nearly 40 points a game again, led by one of their dynamic backs.
