Miami Hurricanes: Intriguing Transfer Portal Prospects

In this story:

With the Transfer Portal officially opening on Dec. 4, the Miami Hurricanes are going to need another influx of talent. There are already some top prospects to consider beyond the plethora of quarterbacks already opting to go the transfer route.

2024 Transfer Portal Quarterbacks

Before going further, do note that Miami’s needs are not concrete. One must consider the fact that more UM players will hit the Portal as well as announce for the NFL. For now, here are three players that make sense for Miami who are already leaving the school they are currently enrolled at.

No particular order below.

Kris Mitchell, Wide Receiver, Florida International Panthers

If people did not know about Mitchell prior to this year’s FIU at Arkansas game, they certainly had a chance to know more about him by the end of that contest. Mitchell’s stat line tells the tale:

6 receptions, 157 yards, and a healthy 26.2 yards per catch average. Arkansas is not a really good team; the Razorbacks are in the SEC West though. Mitchell made plays that deservedly brought him more attention.

For the 2023 season, Mitchell has four games with over 100 yards receiving and nine games with over 70 yards. Here are his full 2023 receiving statistics:

64 receptions, 1,118 yards, 17.5 average, and 6 touchdowns.

As a side note, Mitchell hails from Jacksonville (Fla.) Mandarin, the same high school as the current UM 2024 offensive line commitment Deryc Plazz.

Joey Slackman, Defensive Tackle, University of Pennsylvania Quakers

At a listed 6-foot-4 and 300 pounds and a first-team All-Ivy League selection, Slackman’s girth and playmaking ability would be a tremendous addition to Miami’s defensive tackle depth chart. Here are Slackman’s 2023 statistics:

23 solo and 27 assisted tackles for 50 total. He also has 12 tackles for loss, 4 sacks, 4 quarterback hurries, and a pass breakup.

Miami is already in the Slackman recruiting race going by his social media post:

Xzavier Mcleod, Defensive Tackle, South Carolina Gamecocks

One cannot teach size. Mcleod’s 6-foot-4 and 325 pounds of mass would be a welcome addition – much like Slackman’s – to the interior of UM’s defensive front.

A 4-star recruit coming out of Camden (S.C.) High School, Mcleod’s offer list was a who’s who of top programs from across the SEC, ACC, and Big 12 like Georgia, Alabama, Florida State, North Carolina, and Texas before settling on the Gamecocks.

According to the Greenville News, Mcleod left the South Carolina program back in October. The reason for his departure is not known.
