And we're off.

Game week has finally arrived. The Miami (FL) Hurricanes will face the Miami (OH) Redhawks this Friday night at Hard Rock Stadium.

I sat down with backup quarterback Jacurri Brown, tight end Jaleel Skinner and wide receiver Isaiah Horton on Sunday. You can feel their excitement to finally play some games that count.

On the motivation coming off a 5-7 season

"Everybody in that building knows (5-7) is not our standard." Jacurri Brown said. "Coach Cristobal enforces that in us. When guys care about football and nothing else, we're on top and we're good. Everybody is coming together as a team and everybody is putting in more extra work. Everybody is more cohesive together. It's like one heartbeat. It's gonna be great. I'm really excited to see what it looks like on Friday night when we all come together."

On the Miami of Ohio Redhawks

"Miami Ohio has been the focus," Skinner said. "They've been the focus since last week. We're all, as a team, locked in on them and locked in on coming out 1-0."

On what to expect from the Redhawks, Skinner says, "I expect them to come out and play physical, play their game."

Brown said, "I feel like they're gonna come in and try to stop the run. They're gonna have extra people in the box. It's gonna open up some one on ones on the outside and we'll try and take what they give us. Never go broke, take a profit is what (TE coach) Woodiel says all the time."

"We're just gonna go out there and play fast, make routine plays, no superhero plays. We'll just move the ball downfield and play efficient."

Horton said, "Miami Ohio is a great team. I expect them to come out strong and physical but that's the same with us. We need to come out fast, play physical, play strong and play smart."
