The Miami Hurricanes played good offensive football today and should be proud of their efforts. While the 38-31 loss stung, take a look at what the offense did.

With Emory Williams out due to a left arm injury, Tyler Van Dyke reentered the starting lineup and led the Canes. Many thought he would struggle, and rightfully so when considering he threw 11 interceptions during the last five games he had played.

Today was different as the senior showed he could be a playmaker. Van Dyke went 24 of 39, 61.5%, 327 yards, a touchdown, and no interceptions.

Van Dyke and the passing game also averaged 13.8 yards per completion and 8.3 yards per attempt. In conjunction with the passing attack, the Hurricanes came up with six third-down conversions from 14 attempts.

By halftime, Van Dyke was also doing well by going 11 of 16, 68.8%, 141 yards, and 1 touchdown. Van Dyke and the skill position players were aided throughout the contest by an offensive line that allowed only one sack on the day. That fact was a prime reason why Van Dyke’s close friend Xavier Restrepo ended up with the big day he did.

“X” caught 8 passes for 193 yards, a 24.3 average, and Van Dyke’s lone touchdown pass. Restrepo was fantastic today. The line provided time, Van Dyke threw well, and Restrepo made the catches and yards after contact. The big guys opened some running lanes as well, and one of Miami’s prized freshmen seized the opportunity to make plays.

Running back Mark Fletcher, Jr. was once again outstanding, rushing 17 times for 126 yards, a 7.4 average, and 2 touchdowns. His 55-yard scamper for a score showed off more speed than some folks might have realized that Fletcher possessed, too.

For the game, Miami accumulated 486 total yards of offense. The Canes did not win, but the offense showed once again that it can be a balanced and productive unit.
