In this story:

We're almost at the midway point of spring football at the University of Miami. On Tuesday morning, the Hurricanes will hit the Greentree practice fields to kick off week three.

Here are three things I'll be watching for:

Intensity levels

Things ramped up in week two and the increased ferocity was noticeable. Recruits Kamarion Franklin (4-star DL) and David Stone (5-star DL) both commented on their appreciation for Miami's intensity. The battles on the line of scrimmage are about as fierce as they can be with limited contact permitted. We can only hope this is a sign of things to come once the regular season rolls around.

The competition levels have appeared higher than they were this time a year ago. Several of Miami's early enrollee freshmen have helped to up the ante by competing and pushing the veterans.

Young lions

4-star edge rusher Rueben Bain, one of Miami's star early-enrollees, stood out in Miami's first partial scrimmage on Saturday. The scrimmage was closed to fans and media, but "Hurricane Bain" reportedly created sacks on back to back plays.

Sophomore edge Nyjalik Kelly has also been excelling. He recorded four sacks last season with limited snaps in his debut year. He, along with Bain, can become some of the most dangerous young defensive linemen in the country this year. I also expect big things from Jayden Wayne.

Early enrollee twins, linebacker Bobby and wide receiver Robby Washington, have been turning heads so far. So has wide receiver Nathaniel "Ray Ray" Joseph

The most impressive freshman of all is offensive tackle Francis Mauigoa. He has been getting reps at first team right tackle since late in the first week. The 5-star recruit has a legitimate chance to become a week one starter if he keeps progressing at his current pace.

Another name to know is Kaleb Spencer. The early enrollee safety is big, physical, and earning praise from defensive coordinator Lance Guidry

Quarterback / receiver connections

Through the first two weeks, quarterback Tyler Van Dyke and wide receiver Colbie Young have been building their chemistry. Young, at 6'5, is a strong candidate to emerge as Miami's top outside receiver this season. He's dropped some weight in an attempt to get faster. He looks lean and mean.

Van Dyke already has strong chemistry with slot receiver Xavier Restrepo. I also expect Jacolby George to put together a strong junior season after dealing with injuries and suspension last year.

Sophomore Isaiah Horton is the wild card of the receiver room. He hasn't proven much on game days just yet (one catch last season,) but he has looked good in practices this spring. Horton, Brashard Smith and Frank Ladson can be the icing on the cake this year if they can step up along with the others.

I'll have a report after the media viewing period on Tuesday.
