Senior Film Review: Miami Commitment Cam Pruitt

Miami continues to add speed and playmakers to the defense

The Miami Hurricanes are implementing a fast defensive unit, one that plays downhill with players who can be dominant in multiple roles. One way the Miami coaches are making this happen is recruiting players that some schools might project at safety, but can help the Canes at linebacker and within specialty packages.

Miami commitment Cam Pruitt is an example from the 2024 recruiting class. He’s built similar to and plays like current Hurricane linebacker Wesley Bissainthe. Even on Pruitt’s X page, he lists himself as a free safety and linebacker.

That could be insightful thinking for his long-term football career with the Canes, and possibly the NFL where coverage skills are essential to winning.

That’s Miami defensive coordinator Lance Guidry’s thought process as well. To that point, here are some of the exact times for key plays from Pruitt’s senior highlight film. Notice how he moves to different positions throughout the video. The actual highlight video is down below.

0:00 - The first play shows Pruitt playing press-man coverage with a wide receiver. During the ensuing screen play, he disengages from the block and makes the tackle.

0:14 - Watch Pruitt line up the running back from the middle linebacker position, and then deliver the blow at the line of scrimmage.

0:39 - Beating a double team is hard, but doing so and making a tackle is fantastic!

0:51 - Watch Pruitt come out of coverage, quickly close ground on the quarterback as he moved out of the pocket, and deliver a big hit.

1:03 - Pruitt plays the slot defender on this play, corralling a tipped pass for an interception.

2:10 - Fantastic block destruction, and then finds the football to help make a tackle.

Pruitt is a fantastic football player and one that can help Miami at outside linebacker, the nickel position, inside linebacker, and definitely within the nickel and dime packages overall. Just a unique football player that’s coming to Coral Gables.
