Updated Miami 2023 Record Prediction | Video

In this story:
Digging deeper into the opponents that the Miami Hurricanes will play this season, there are several positives that truly need to be examined. There are also some pitfalls to overcome with the 2023 schedule.
8-4 would be the mark that is expected. That’s the original total anyway. Now, that number is different after further analyzing the entirety of Miami’s situation. The video explanation is here, followed by more detailed analysis below.
On the Bright Side
Playing Miami of Ohio in the first game of the season, that’s going to pay dividends. Two new coordinators, Tyler Van Dyke being back in the lineup, a revamped offensive line, 15 transfers, and several freshmen that are expected to play significant minutes.
Those are some of the reasons a tuneup game is a good idea. Yes, that game against the RedHawks will be good for the Canes prior to playing Texas A&M, in case one forgets when the contest with the Aggies falls on the schedule.
The other area that probably should be considered even more, Miami’s pass rush. Think about the following. The Hurricanes come off a season with 37 sacks despite a porous offense. Now, with teams needing to score more and passing the football more, Miami’s defense should be able to create more havoc for the opposing signal callers it faces.
Finally, look, the offense is going to be far better. Last season’s disaster is over and this year will be a big turnaround with all the new talent via roster additions – and the coaching staff – to help Miami win football games. One particular note here.
Late in games, Miami is going to be able to run or pass the football. It’s going to be totally different from 2022. The Canes, in essence, will be able to close out games with a four-minute offense when needed, or just the opposite, operate a two-minute offense and score at the end.
This season still has areas to figure out as well.
There Are Concerns
First, Miami must earn its way to being a quality football team. Nothing shall be given to any Miami player, let alone the team. Football is hard. Really hard. Cohesiveness, leadership, and talent must all come together against the Aggies on Sep. 9, and then during the backhalf of the schedule that includes road contests versus North Carolina, North Carolina State, Florida State, and Boston College, plus hosts Louisville and Clemson.
That does not even take into account how many of the Miami teams during the past 20 years laid an egg against inferior opponents. That must stop this season, period!
How will Miami’s leadership respond to adversity during games? During off weeks when something went wrong during the prior contest, win or lose?
Little issues like false starts, a passing being dropped, or a missed assignment on defense, any of those can create bigger riffs down the line. There’s a fine line between winning and losing that goes back to the old saying, “One play at a time.”
That leads into each practice being maximized, too. That mindset must be instilled from the first day of fall camp through the end of the season.
Leadership, leadership, leadership!
There are too many veterans that continue to toil for the Orange and Green for this not to be a breakout season. Yes, the Canes are still a work in progress. That’s a fact. The level of talent that Mario Cristobal and his staff brought in for the 2023 season via the Transfer Portal and the prep ranks combined is still going to give more chances at wins than in 2022. That’s common sense as well.
Much of that talent is also at critical positions. Van Dyke at quarterback, Xavier Restrepo and Colbie Young at wide receiver, and a plethora of pass rushers like Jahfari Harvey and Akheem Mesidor at defensive end, among other pass rushers, all at least juniors in addition to their obvious talent.
Miami is going to surprise many people in 2023. The Canes go 9-3 and play in a quality bowl game. The Canes will also win in Doak Campbell Stadium as an additional prediction. Rivalry games, they bring some unique performances out of players and teams.
