In this story:

One of the top 2025 prospects in Florida, and the nation, would be Jarquez Carter.

He’s already been a prime target of top programs throughout the Power 5, and he took some time to be interviewed. An overview of his background and recruiting comes next, and then the full podcast can be seen down below.

Size: 6-foot-3, 270 pounds

Position: Defensive tackle or nose guard

School: Newberry (Fla.) High School

Scholarship offers

Penn State, Notre Dame, UCF, USF, Ole Miss, Western Kentucky, Arkansas State, Temple, and Florida A&M among others, as of June 9, 2023.

Athleticism

This young man can move for his size. Laterally, a quick burst forward, or fending off an offensive lineman before going full speed, Carter has displayed his abilities several times. To give an even better idea of what he’s capable of, check out the following video that he posted on Twitter:

It’s quite unusual to see a player that size make that leap, let alone one that still has a couple of years of high school football left.

Frame

Pure interior body type. Carter was destined to play 3-technique and/or nose guard – depending on the scheme – at the Power 5 level.

He will fill out to be in the 290-pound range without any issues.

Style of Play

Carter can be described as a “Let’s get after it” kind of player. That’s a saying sometimes used down here in Florida to define putting in work; it’s also a way to define out-hustling the opposition. Carter has shown that on film throughout his high school career.

When Carter played his best, he was hitting a gap and being disruptive. Think of many of the talented interior defensive lineman that consistently went on to the NFL Draft within the past 30 to 40 years. To that point, check out Carter from his time at Clemson's camp:

His junior film saw him come out of a three-point stance with a burst, and beat the offensive lineman to the gap so that a big play can be made in the backfield. Same with the film from the Clemson camp.

Upside

Yes, Carter still has a ways to go with technique and continuing to learn the finer points of being a top-notch defensive tackle. His power and athleticism, combined with his tremendous effort, have made him a national recruit already though.

After watching the film, it was easy to see why programs from across the country have already taken notice of him. Further, he has earned a 3.6 GPA, making him even more desired by college football programs.

Look for Carter to end up with north of 30 Power 5 offers because he can impact a college football game as a run stuffer or a pass rusher. Defensive tackle recruits that can do both will always be coveted.

Here’s the full podcast with Carter, including more recruiting information and insights to the type of young man he’s become.

***Note: Carter lost reception towards the end of the interview and therefore it was trimmed up before I would have liked.
