The natural draw to meet former NFL star and now NFL Hall of Fame inductee Jason Taylor came about for a top recruit today on the Greentree practice fields.

“I got to meet him today,” said edge recruit Elias Williams said of Taylor. "He coaches the (defensive) line to be the best players they can be. He always tells the guys the truth.”

The Canes had another spring practice today, and Williams wanted to see how the Hurricanes worked in practice. He was happy with what he saw. The Canes coaching staff was also happy to him because he’s an in-state defensive lineman that’s been offered.

Among others, Williams has scholarships from Miami, UCF, FSU, Louisville, Liberty and Cincinnati. He has been planning to see Miami for a while.

As for his upcoming official visits, he has started to get an idea of where he’d like to go.

“I have one in June, I’m going to Liberty. I am planning one to UCF.”

He’s also learning more about another in-state program. Here’s what Williams said about FSU after seeing their campus facilities recently during an unofficial visit.

“At FSU, it’s great. They are giving their players the conditions to practice. They are getting their facilities redone.”

It would not be surprising if UM and FSU both ended up getting official visits from Williams. He’s still trying to sort that out. The Canes made a good impression on him today, and FSU also caught Williams’ attention on March 6.

Coming from Hudson (Fla.) High School, about 30 minutes northwest of Tampa, Williams has played defensive tackle and defensive end for the Cobras. He’s been just as impactful at either spot.

The 6-foot-4 and 240-pound defender has shown a tremendous first step. Regardless of where he’s lined up prior to the snap, Williams utilized speed to power within his first step to set up whatever move he chose to finish off the play. He’s good with bull rush moves, as well as using either hand to fend off a big offensive lineman and get to the ball carrier.

This will be a young man to track moving forward.

Williams has been ranked by 247 composite rankings as the No. 684 recruit in the country. Based on his offers and seeing Williams’ film, look for him to rise in the recruiting rankings, too.
