Miami Visit Made State Champion QB O'Neil 'Feel Like Home'

Record-setting Indiana passer Danny O'Neil sat down with Cristobal, Dawson while at The U

One of the top uncommitted quarterback recruits in the class of 2024 is becoming one of the most well-traveled this spring.

Danny O'Neil, the Indianapolis (Ind.) Cathedral star who is 23-3 as a starter and already has a 2021 state championship ring to his name, spent the last two weekends at Michigan State and Miami. Colorado will host him this weekend while Illinois and Northwestern have trips in the works, too.

The trip to Coral Gables enabled the rising-senior recruit, responsible for nearly 100 total touchdowns over the last two seasons, to get face time with Mario Cristobal and new offensive coordinator Shannon Dawson

"It was really everything I expected," O'Neil said during an interview with the Locked on Buffs podcast. "It was a beautiful place, it's warm, they're going to throw the ball around a lot with coach Dawson. That's kind of where their interest in me came from, he was recruiting me pretty heavy when he was at Houston. It translated over (to Miami) once he got the new job.

"It's going to be exciting to see where that relationship goes."

Cristobal sat down with the 6-foot-1, 190-pound prospect before he left town, hitting a key point in what O'Neil is looking for from his eventual school of choice.

"When I met with him (Cristobal) he made Miami feel like home," he said. "It was like 30 degrees back home when I was down there, so I was glad it was 85 and sunny (at Miami). He made the place feel like home and made sure I was taken care of.

"Him and Coach Dawson both made sure I knew I was wanted there and I was going to be able to come in and compete early, which is a big thing. It's definitely something I think I can do."

Kentucky, Louisville and other programs, in addition to those on the visit slate, are among the programs communicating with O'Neil on a consistent basis. The former freshman All-American wants to end the recruiting process in "May or June."
