Which Michigan Players Could Enter the Transfer Portal if They Lose Their Starting Jobs?

With fall camp currently ongoing, there have been a couple of interesting updates to the Michigan projected starting offense. With some guys winning battles, the flip side of that is that some guys will also be losing battles.

It's never a fun thing to discuss, which players could transfer if they lose their starting jobs, but it is the reality of the current state of college football. Very few college football players will end their 4-5 year career at one institution without being a starter. That being said, let's look into which Michigan players could enter the transfer portal if they lose their starting roles.

Blake Frazier

I'll start with what would be the biggest loss in my opinion if this does ever come to pass. Blake Frazier started eight games last season for Michigan, but this fall will have to battle the former 5-star recruit and rising redshirt freshman Andrew Babalola for the left tackle position. Babalola had a chance to start last year as a true freshman but tore his ACL in fall camp, paving the way for Frazier to eventually take over that job once Evan Link went down due to an injury.

Blake Frazier is no slouch himself, but last season he looked a little physically outmatched at times. Most notably the bowl game against Texas where he really struggled to block the Texas edge rushers. His biggest issue was just being too light with too little strength, and he may have solved that problem over this past off-season with the new strength and conditioning staff. He's certainly not guaranteed to lose the starting battle at left tackle, but if he does, he could unfortunately be someone who ends up looking for greener pastures elsewhere.

Brady Norton

Another offensive lineman, Brady Norton is competing for an offensive guard spot in fall camp. He's battling primarily Evan Link for the left guard spot, but could also battle for the right guard spot with Nathan Efobi. At least as Michigan entered fall camp, Norton was likely on the outside looking in. With just one year of eligibility left after this season, he could also enter the transfer portal if he ends up losing out on a starting role for each of those offensive guard positions.

Cameron Brandt

The other experienced veteran who could see themselves losing a starting role this fall camp is Cameron Brandt. Dominic Nichols is being highly considered for the starting edge role opposite John Henry Daley, which would mean Cameron Brandt would be on the outside looking in.

Michigan also has a number of highly talented edge rushers behind Brandt who could eventually overtake him. Most notably Nate Marshall, Lugard Edokpayi, Benny Patterson, and Carter Meadows. You never want to lose players to the transfer portal, especially experienced veteran players, but Michigan undoubtedly has a lot of depth and talent at the edge rusher position.
