Michigan Basketball Stays in the Hunt for Top-30 Recruit Devin Cleveland, Sets OV

Cleveland has been high on Michigan for some time and he has set a visit to Ann Arbor.

There have been coaching changes in Ann Arbor, but Michigan is expected to contend for the Big Ten once again this season and make a run in the NCAA Tournament. Dusty May is no longer there, but Mike Boynton Jr. has done a great job of keeping everything intact.

While Boynton Jr. hasn't landed any recruits yet, he has hit the ground recruiting and sending out offers.

Devin Cleveland is still in the mix

One player who has been interested in Michigan for some time is 2027 guard Devin Cleveland. The Chicago (IL) La Lumiere School has scheduled an official visit with the Wolverines, despite May no longer being with the program.

Cleveland recently scheduled four official visits with Alabama, TCU, Missouri, and Michigan. His last OV will come on Nov. 6-8 and the Wolverines, as of now, will get the final chance to sway Cleveland.

 “I know there been coaching changes recently but Coach Akeem [Miskdeen] – another Chicago guy who I’ve been building a connection for the past three years – reached out to reassure me that they are still confident in the coaching staff and the team’s ability to compete at the highest level," Cleveland told Rivals. "I’m looking forward to building a connection with Coach (Mike) Boynton and seeing how my game can fit into what they’re building. I’ll be watching his play style throughout the season.”

Cleveland is an ideal fit for Michigan

The 6'3", 160-pound guard is ranked as Rivals Industrial's No. 33 player in the 2027 class. ESPN is the highest on Cleveland, ranking him as the No. 30 player in the class. He is also listed as the No. 6 shooting guard and the No. 3 player out of Chicago.

Cleveland is more of a '2' guard than a ball handler. This past summer, playing in the EYBL Circuit, Cleveland averaged 16.6 points and 2.5 assists per game.

He told Rivals he is looking for a program that is going to challenge him daily and help him reach the NBA. He hopes to play early as a true freshman and is seeking the best opportunity for himself.

Michigan is fairly loaded at guard, but that could change after this season. With a good season, both Trey McKenney and Brandon McCoy Jr. could be off to the NBA. The Wolverines could always use the transfer portal, and Michigan likes both Joseph Hartman and Malachi Brown.

But the Wolverines have shown they aren't afraid to play freshman and Boynton Jr. will need some more shooting after this season.
