COACH TV: HBU Coach Ron Cottrell After His Team’s Blowout Loss to #2 Michigan State

The #2 Michigan State Spartans held home court tonight in a 107-62 blowout win over Houston Baptist. If was the Spartans tenth straight win since losing to Duke 88-81 on November 14. The Spartans have won all ten games by at least 10 points.

Four Spartans hit double digits in the scoring column for the Spartans. Miles Bridges led the way tying his career high 33 points and six rebounds. Nick Ward had 20 points and ix boards. Joshua Langford had 14 points and Cassius Winston had 10. The Spartans had a disappointing 14 turnovers.

With the win Michigan State improves to 11-1. Michigan State out rebounded HBU by a dismal 43-39 margin. The Spartans had 30 assists on 36 baskets. The Spartans also set a single game record for their program with 16 blocks. The previous record was 13.

Opening statement…
First of all I’m pleased with our guys’ effort – the way they played, the toughness that they showed against one of the best teams, obviously in the country. I thought, when you look at the size of each of the players on Michigan State’s team, their length, their athleticism, their skill level. You put all of those combinations together and it was a tough match up for us tonight.

But I was really pleased with the fact our guys never backed down. They didn’t stop competing. Don’t know how many don’t know how many of you know, but we’re playing without our starting post player, an all-conference player, our leading scorer, leading rebounder. And so we were even more overmatched inside than we would like.

But, I thought our guys really competed. Obviously shots weren’t going in for us particularly early on, but I think Michigan State had a whole lot to do with that. It made it a little tougher to run what we want to run, in the space that we do because they push you a little bit further out on the floor. Make those shots a little bit tougher.

The Spartans return to action on Thursday against Long Beach State. That game can be seen on BTN and it tips off at 7PM.
