Spartans Draw #5 Seed and New Mexico State Aggies in Spokane, WA

It’s official. The MSU Spartans were given a five seed in this year’s NCAA tournament and head out west to the land of Jud Heathcote: Spokane, Washington. 

They will tip off at 7:20 PM EST. In fact a much happier Izzo from when we last saw him on Friday declared, “Party at Jud’s house!”

 

The Spartans could take their five seed as a sign of disrespect, but that wasn’t something Tom Izzo felt. “There are sometimes that we haven’t gotten what I thought we deserved and then this,” implying that maybe the Spartans did better than expected by him.

 

The locker room was not overjoyed and their wasn’t shouts when their name was called. They were much more laid back than the programs CBS featured. This program wasn’t on the bubble and a five seed is not shouting material for a program like MSU.

 

There is no doubt that the Spartans have had issues this year, but Izzo tried to make light of. They are used to hearing it from me, “Now they have to fear playing in front of Jud.”

 

The Spartans will enter the tournament unlike many teams that wonder how far their limited talent can take them. Instead they will wonder how far their mental state can HINDER their superior talent.

 

After watching the tape of the Minnesota loss at the Big Ten tournament, Izzo wasn’t as down as some of the Spartan Nation. “If we play that hard,” implying that he was pleased as his team’s effort.

 

The Spartans first round match up finds them playing the Aggies of New Mexico State. They are 22-11 (11-5) and they just completed winning their second WAC tournament championship. This is the first meeting of the two teams.

 

So what does Izzo think of his draw this year? “I am just crazy enough to think we can do something.” Call me crazy with you Tom, I agree. I also think you could lose in the first round.
