The new, giant scoreboards implemented in Spartan Stadium this year seem to have a fan in 2013 Spartan commit Demetrius Cooper.

"The best things I've ever seen in any stadium," he called them, adding that "they just sealed the whole deal” for him.

And they were not all that impressed the defensive end out of Chicago.

"When I went up there for the (Boise State) game, the fans were going crazy!  It was my first time being in an atmosphere like that, and I loved it."

It was his first time at Spartan Stadium for a game, but he hopes to make it to at least a couple more games this season.

"The atmosphere was just like, WOW.  I've been to a couple other college games, but that one just blew me away.  I was like 'man, that's the team I'm gonna be playing with next year?!’"

The joy he got from the Spartan faithful was matched by the joy the Spartan faithful got from him.

Cooper claims that he had really not expected to be signing autographs that night.

"It was shocking!” he remembers. It was like, wait me? Demetrius Cooper? I thought I was a nobody! The only people who know me are the people in my school. Actually having fans who I didn't know was crazy."

Back at home, Cooper is focusing on recovering from a knee surgery he underwent last year.

"Right now our season's kind of rough," he says about his high school team, "and no one likes that, but we've just got to keep our heads up and keep on going.  We're still eligible for the state playoffs, so we just have to win out. I can't play whole games, but I can play a little bit."

He made it clear that Spartan fans have nothing to worry about, though, as he is expected to be fully recovered when he moves to campus in June.

"(The doctor) told me 'when you go off to college, you'll have no worries,” Cooper assures. “He's s Michigan State fan, too!"

And until that first game next fall, Cooper will continue dreaming about what it will be like to be a part of what he witnessed on the field that night at his first Spartan football game.

"Before the game even started, the atmosphere was just crazy," he says again.  "Then when I saw the scoreboards, I was just envisioning myself right there in the smoke with my teammates, in our pads and helmets.  It just hypes you up even more.  It really gets you in the game.

"I imagine myself right there on that field.  I can't wait."
