The Spartans are well aware of John Glenn High School in Westland. It was that school that produced, at the tail end of the recruiting two seasons, an emerging Spartan star in Keshawn (Kmart) Martin.

Well, they may be doing the same again with RB Jeremy Langford. The Spartans already have an offer extended to Fort Lauderdale, Florida’s, James White, but should White delay or commit elsewhere, Langford could be the next man up and finally get the MSU offer he craves. He will be on campus this weekend for a visit.

 

Mark Dantonio, if all things were equal, would rather get his recruits from Michigan or surrounding Big Ten states. That said, the Spartans like Langford’s speed and hands. He mirrors Keshawn’s natural athletic ability and brings to the table a lot of Percy Harvin type skills.

 

Spartan Nation spoke exclusively with John Glenn AD Brian Swinehart and he spoke about Langford. “He is a heck of an athlete. As good as Keshawn was for us, Jeremy is also. He is so good and is that one cut back that makes things happen.”

 

Langford has legit good size at 6’1” and weighs 190#. According to Swinehart his forty has been timed at 4.38 and at MSU’s camp he was timed at 4.42. Everyone knows that in football speed kills and Langford ran a 10.7 in the 100 last season in track. Swinehart says, “We fully expect him to run a 10.5 this year.”

 

Langford isn’t sitting around waiting for MSU. He will be traveling the day after Thanksgiving for an official visit to Colorado. The Buffalos are also impressed with the young man’s talents and want him to be there for their game against Nebraska. He also has been garnering attention from other Big Ten schools and Brian Kelly with the Bearcats.

 

Not only does Langford run and catch, he is a special teams’ star. With no drops with any of his touches this season (according to Swinehart), this sure handed athlete has a lot of people drooling with his athletic talent. At MSU however, they look at more than just talent on the field, they look for character off of it.

 

Langford showed some of that grit and work ethic off the field, that he has become known for on it, by making the honor roll. Being on a team with 60+ players, he also has gone back and run sprints with guys who have struggled, long after his speed saw him finished quick and he could have been headed to the showers. Swinehart admires the leadership that Langford has grown into. 

 

“I just am really proud at how hard he has worked off the field. In school and in things that aren’t part of the actual game like running extra sprints with guys. He is a heck of player and a heck of a kid.”

 

Swinehart would know. It was his persistence that made MSU aware of Keshawn Martin and he may now have one even better in Langford. Coaches are inundated with fans that saw a local baggage boy at the grocery that “Sure can move fast,” but when Swinehart speaks, MSU listens. He carries the credibility of noticing Keshawn Martin’s talent long before recruiters did. His proven eye for talent is dully noted and appreciated.

 

With Mark Dantonio’s desire to bring kids from the Big Ten states to MSU and Langford’s character on and off the field, MSU is looking hard at this John Glenn youngster. In watching MSU this year there is no doubt that they need speed and talent, and Langford has both.

 

Now as the 2010 recruiting class formulates, we watch to see if this youngster and MSU can connect. With that much talent how can they not?
