The Mississippi State Bulldogs bounced back tonight with a 2-1 walk-off win over New Orleans. The Bulldogs desperately needed to get back on track after a tough 6-5 loss to South Alabama last night.

Most of the game was a day to forget for the Bulldogs on offense, as they struggled mightily. MSU finished with eight hits and walks, but the struggles for the Bulldogs were the same as they had been all season, which was hitting with runners in scoring position.

Hunter Hines continued to struggle today, and he had a chance to break the game open in the bottom of the third as he stepped into the plate with the bases loaded and nobody out. However, the powerful lefty rolled right into a 6-4-3 double play to end the inning.

Nolan Stevens produced the only run in MSU's first nine innings, launching a solo home run into right field. In the 11th, the Bulldogs once again had the bases loaded with one out, and Aaron Down pinch-hit for Johnny Long.

Downs smashed the 0-1 pitch up the middle to win it for MSU. The pitching was once again fabulous as they allowed no earned runs, but Colby Holcombe is who stood out the most.

Holcombe came into the season with great expectations but has failed to meet them, and he is an arm MSU desperately needs. The righty figured it all out tonight as he tossed three scoreless innings and struck out seven.

It was not a pretty win for MSU, but the Bulldogs can ill-afford to be picky right now. LSU comes to Dudy Noble Field this weekend, and if MSU continues to play like this, it will be a long weekend at the ballpark.

Mississippi State is back in action Friday at 6 p.m. CT against LSU on SEC Network+.
