Mississippi State baseballs picks up commitment from George Mason catcher

The Bulldogs' top-ranked transfer portal added a second catcher to its ranks Thursday with true freshman Andrew Raymond's commitment.

It’s been nearly two weeks since Mississippi State’s new baseball coach Brian O’Connor received a commitment from the NCAA transfer portal.

That changed Thursday when former George Mason catcher Andrew Raymond committed to the Bulldogs. Raymond played in 51 games as a freshman last season and posted a .287/.393/.431 slashing line. In 174 at-bats he had 50 hits (10 doubles), five home runs, 33 RBIs, 30 walks and 26 strikeouts.

Defensively, Raymond had a .980 fielding percentage and allowed five passed balls. In 56 stolen base attempts, he caught eight stealing.

Raymond’s commitment brings O’Connor’s first transfer portal class in Starkville to 16 total players. The transfer portal class still remains at the top of class rankings, but others are closing in.
