Mississippi State men's basketball forward Cameron Matthews announced on Friday that he'll be returning to play for the Bulldogs for a fifth and final season.

Matthews, an All-SEC Defensive Team member, has been known for his versatility throughout the season as he finished top-3 among the Bulldogs in every stat category. In 35 games, he averaged 9.4 points, 6.8 rebounds, 2.9 assists, 2.1 steals and 0.7 blocks per contest.

Matthews helped lead Mississippi State to an NCAA Tournament appearance, especially after he scored 18 points on 100 percent from the field in a massive 73-56 upset win over No. 5 Tennessee in the quarterfinals of the SEC Tournament.

Matthews broke the news via a message on Instagram. Here's a transcript of what he said:

I'M BACK

Thank you Bulldog family for the love and support you showed us during the run to our second straight NCAA Tournament last season. It means so much to compete in fron of sold-out crowds at The Hump.

Being a student-athlete at Mississippi State means a lot to me and to my family being a Mississippi kid. I'm extremely thankful that they've been with me every step of the way, and they've been able to see me grow these past four years.

We've got more memories to make and more goals to achieve. I'm excited to announce that I'll be wearing the maroon and white one more time in 2024-25.

I'm appreciative of coach Jans and our staff for the lessons they've taught me and for trusting me to be a leader. I work hard every day to be the best player I can be and can't wait for what's in store next season

Hail State,

Cameron "Mook" Matthews
