Report: Mississippi State Freshman Mjracle Sheppard Entering Transfer Portal

Mississippi State women's basketball guard Mjracle Sheppard will play elsewhere next season, despite a solid freshman year.

Mississippi State women's basketball guard Mjracle Sheppard announced on Thursday that she's entering the transfer portal.

The freshman broke the news via a message that she posted on Instagram:

"After careful consideration and reflection, I've decided to enter the transfer portal to explore new opportunities," Sheppard wrote.

"I'm grateful for the experiences and memories gained at Mississippi State, and I'm excited to see what the future holds."

"Thank you to everyone who has supported me along the way. Your belief in me has meant the world, and I will carry that DAWG energy with me as I embark on this new chapter."

Sheppard becomes the third to enter the portal this offseason, joining fellow freshman guard Jasmine Brown-Hagger and junior forward Nyayongah Gone.

Sheppard played in 35 games (one start) for the Bulldogs this past season, averaging five points, 2.6 rebounds and 2.1 assists in 17.8 minutes per game. She finished with three games in double figures, including a season-high 14 points in a win over Jacksonville State. 

Nevertheless, an argument could be made that Sheppard's best outing came against Kennesaw State, when she tallied eight points, five rebounds and what ended up being season-highs in assists (9) and steals (7).

The steals category was the area in which Sheppard stood out among nearly the entire Bulldogs roster as her 1.8 per game only trailed All-SEC guard JerKaila Jordan, who averaged 2.1 in nearly 31 minutes per game. Overall, Sheppard recorded two 3-steal games, one 5-steal game, two 6-steal games and the aforementioned seven-steal outing against Kennesaw State.
