Recruiting Rundown: Mississippi State Continues to Host Prospects

Mississippi State has hosted several visitors this week.

STARKVILLE, Miss. — The Mississippi State Bulldogs  have hit the home stretch of Spring football under their first-year head coach, Jeff Lebby. In this day and age, recruiting is a 365-day grind, and Lebby and his staff are laying the foundation for the 2025 class.

The Bulldogs have hit the practice fields throughout the Spring on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday. Prospects usually come through on those days to see the coaching staff during practice.

Zion Legree- April 11th

The first prospect is a rising junior in the 2026 class. Legree is listed as an athlete with a confirmed 4.35 40 time.

He is listed at 6-1 190 pounds, and with that size and speed, he will likely fit in at receiver or corner, depending on how much he grows. The Pensacola, Florida native already holds offers from Notre Dame and Auburn.

He has yet to receive an offer from MSU, but that will likely change. Legree does not have a consensus ranking yet.

JP Powell- April 11th

Moving to the 2025 class, the Bulldogs hosted another listed athlete this weekend. Powell is listed at 5-10 185, so he is likely a running back or defensive back prospect.

The Colquitt, Georgia native, holds offers from Florida State, Georgia Tech, and MSU. He does not have a consensus ranking.

Bryson Walters- April 11th

The Bulldogs also hosted a 2025 in-state prospect this week. Walters is a 6-2 220-pound linebacker from Fulton, Mississippi.

Itawamba Agricultural High School has been good to Mississippi State as they have signed current safety Issac Smith, who played for IAHS. Walters is ranked a 3-star prospect by 247 sports.

He holds an offer from Southern Miss, but MSU has not offered yet if they do expect a quick commitment.

Rashad Amos- April 11th

The most crucial prospect on campus this week regarding the Bulldogs this season is the former Miami of Ohio running back. Amos is one of the top prospects still in the transfer portal after rushing for 1,075 yards and 13 touchdowns last season.

Running back is undoubtedly a need for MSU right now, as that room has limited experience, and Seth Davis is likely to miss a reasonable amount of time after sustaining an injury in the Egg Bowl. The 6-2 234 pound running back signed initially with South Carolina out of high school before heading to Miami (OH).

The Georgia native has many suitors, but MSU can promise a lot of playing time, so they should be in a good spot.

Come back to Cowbell Corner next week for another Recruiting Rundown.
